“Elected” Promo Film

Post by killernyd » Thu May 26, 2022 6:36 am

Hi Dennis,

I’ve always wondered in which city the “Elected” promo film was shot back in 1972? Do you recall? I’ve also heard that Stacy Keach directed the video years before he became famous as an actor. Can you confirm this?

We knew Stacy Keach when he was a young actor. He and his film partner treated us to private screenings of two of their films.

One was a beautiful roam through Morocco, which was heavy on colorful visual transitions and, as I recall, didn't have a plot or even any people in it. I think they were showing off how talented his film partner was.

The other film was called The Repeater. It was filmed in an abandoned prison (Alcatraz perhaps) and Keach played the only prisoner that could be seen. All of the other "ghost prisoners" could only be heard in the background and much of their chatter correlated with a visual collage of graffiti on the walls of the cells. Keach's gritty performance was powerful and impressive.

That said, Keach was an actor not a director. Hart Perry directed the Elected film in New York City.

I wasn't happy with the film because it seemed like everybody had input except the band. Glen once said, even the monkey got more screen time than we did.

I've never particularly liked the Elected promo film either. I like the promo film for Teenage Lament '74 more, and I believe it was also filmed in NYC. Though I couldn't see the correlation between 'the ACG as prison jailbirds who escape' visuals and the song topic, it made for some interesting visuals - I like how the Group also portrayed cops in the vid.

The Teenage Lament promo was filmed in New York on December 1st 1973, a lot of it inside and outside the Academy of Music, where coincidentally exactly 2 years earlier they played 2 shows in one night.

He gave an interview on the BBC with Paul Coia where he talked about it.

He wrote the script, but Hart Perry directed it. Hart Perry also directed the ‘School’s Out’ promo film, the best quality version of which at the correct speed, you can watch here.

Is it possible Hart Perry directed the original live version of “School’s Out” instead of the Hollywood Bowl version?

The School’s Out promo film directed by Hart Perry, doesn’t just show footage from The Hollywood Bowl, but also Miami and New York.
