Along came Alice's best album in years

Post by steven_crayn » Mon Jul 07, 2008 1:36 pm

Forget the 30 second clips on the net, I've just heard the album in full and it is Alice's best album in years in my opinion.

It blows away Dirty Diamonds, Eyes Of , Dragontown and Brutal Planet.

It rocks harder than Last Temptation.

Is it better than Hey Stoopid?, well put it this way the final track I Am The Spider is in the same mould as Wind Up Toy and there are no fillers on this album.

I know this album is going to be one that will get even better the more you hear it, I already rate it the best for at least 17 years and that could improve the more I hear it.

We're kind of discussing this in an other thread:
http://sickthingsuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4158

But I am glad to hear that.

Sometimes I think that Dirty Diamonds, Eyes, Dragontown and Brutal Planet could have been "condensed" in less albums. I loved them all but sometimes it felt like it was "jam spread over too much bread" to paraphrase Bilbo (on purpose) :8):

I was aware of that sherlock ;) , but it was mainly concerned with the 30 sec clips which really don't do the album justice.

I know a few on that thread have also heard the album and haven't been very complimentary and they are way off the mark in my opinion, hence this thread to hopefully restore some balance.

steve you're giving me reason to smile.haven't gone the route of listening to the whole thing, but the clips are holding me over....that opening sample at the beginning of the album-any significance there? I believe it's "the one thing, the one thing"...over and over.now that piqued my interest! I'm really wanting to hear those slower songs (killed by love, and salvation) the most in their entirity as well.

It's a really good album, but too happy. The Last Temptation was better.
But I LOVE IT.

It is a sad assessment of the music industry that those who want to pay are the last to hear new music. This is why record companies have outlived their usefulness and why customers should be able to go to an official website and just buy the music they want directly and DL it.

I got my advance copy and I think this ACAS is awesome!!! I can't wait to have the actual CD + Vinyl in hand!!! I was a little surprised at how upbeat all of the songs are, based on the albums concept and subject matter.

I always love EVERYTHING that Alice releases, I don't compare any his albums from one to another. They are all different in their own way and I like that a lot.

I remain upbeat only hearing the 30 second snippets. Definately does not sound like his worst.

An upbeat album about a serial killer........now there's a twist :alice:

I liked all his latest albums, A LOT, but this is just a terrible, terrible effort imho.

Great for all the people who like the album, but I can't find a single song on the album I really look forward to hearing live...

I still think I'm gonna love it. I mean Raise Your Fist And Yell is my favorite Alice album and there are people who can't stand it at all.

I have a notion that all the people who say the album sucks will be missing out.

Let them.

It isn't quite as metal as the BP but not as stripped as DD. It falls somewhere in the middle.

It feels to me like a heavier version of Last Temptation. The two are very similar to me. Most of the songs on Last Temptation are consistently good, with each one as good as the last. This album is the same. And like Last Temptation there are few outstanding tracks. There are no bad tracks, but very few would ever rank with Alice's best songs.
