Re: Alice Cooper Setlist/New Tour Comment
Thoughts on Birmingham:
Unfortunately missed The Meffs but caught Primal Scream. Always found them to be an odd band. They've got some tracks I like and others I despise. I read they are bringing out a new album and most of the earlier stuff in the set were new tracks and didn't really cut it for me. They ended with Country Girl and Rocks - their two best tracks and was just getting into their set when they called it a night. Overall I thought they were unenthusiastic and didn't really look like they wanted to be there.
And onto the main event. As setlist's go I think it's the best one we've had for a good number of years. A good mix of the original bands classics with the heavier solo stuff.
The show opening was probably the biggest disappointment of the night for me. Alice has always a been a man to make the greatest of entrances (I prefer a good intro tape and a curtain drop). It lacked the anticipation you normally get - so much so the venue lights were late in going off, not realising that the show was about to start. Having said that it was great to hear Lock Me Up for the first time, I'd love to have seen the full track played out as before you knew it we had rolled into Welcome To The Show, which I thought played out well on the stage.
Later on it was a sight to behold as Alice wrapped in a snake belted out Snakebite. Was gutted this was dropped recently in Germany so was delighted when it was reinstated for the UK tour. The added bonus was Be My Lover, which replaced it was also kept in the set.
Other highlights for me were Bed of Nails, He's Back, and the return of Cold Ethyl and Go To Hell.
The band as usual were in top form. Alice, although he sounded great, I did feel he was holding some back throughout the night - which I don't blame him with two shows in consecutive nights preceding this one (I can't recall him doing three shows back to back).
The other thing I've got to get off my chest is the state of the high profile gigs these days. I used to love going to multiple shows on an Alice tour but with the combination of higher ticket prices and not being able to get in the front ten rows with all seated venues it's really starting to boil my p*** and now it's a case of settling for one or two shows at a push. This is the first tour for many years where I'm only doing the one gig. The other issue I've got is the reduced volume in which bands are allowed to play at. Now I get its health and safety but you almost have to refrain from singing so that people can hear the actual artist and band play. Give me some added volume and the ringing in my ears for a week.

Re: Alice Cooper Setlist/New Tour Comment
I’d noticed the volume is down on the past few Alice concerts too sadly.
Re: Alice Cooper Setlist/New Tour Comment
Agree about the opening. What might have seemed like a good idea doesn’t really come off for me.
I thought Alice was in the zone in Glasgow but Ryan looked on autopilot sometimes and more focussed on his party trick of throwing and catching his plectrum (it is quite cool though).
Only other niggle for me was the stage which felt a bit empty and I wasn’t convinced with the steps except for Elected.
Other than that it was excellent and for me Elected and Snakebite were top.

Re: Alice Cooper Setlist/New Tour Comment
Another masterclass in Manchester last night - band in top form and Alice sounding great. The run of Nice Guy / 18 / Under My Wheels / Bed of Nails / B$B early in the set made for an explosive start. Then came Snakebite, which was ace but didn't elicit the same response as what came before.
I didn't really notice the screens much to be honest (although I was at the front so a lot of my focus was on Alice and the band). It was only really during Go to Hell that they grabbed my attention - thought the screens and lighting were really well done here, and it was one of the highlights of the show for me.

I was at Glasgow. I thought Alice's voice was very strong. The band was excellent but I also thought Ryan was off a bit. It looked like he was in a bad mood.
I wasn't wild about the set list, same complaint as usual, just too obvious. The band started off like a rocket but after six or seven songs it was beginning to feel a bit samey, just full ahead, all guns blazing, the result of having to accommodate 3 guitars. I had been listening earlier that day to the special forces tour at the Apollo and their version of 18 was slower, more bluesy and better for it. But then the tempo changed with Welcome and the theatrics kicked up a gear.
I thought Poison was a bit off. Not sure why.
Sheryl looked amazing. I actually thought it was Calico.
I really enjoyed the gig. Alice was on top form but would have liked another couple of deep cuts. Dwight Fry was the highlight for me.

I went to Leeds last night, and agree with the above, Sheryl was dancing around like a 20 year old, amazing for her age. We thought that the sound was poor throughout the night, The Meffs were good, Primal Scream were ok, but the volume on the lead vocals was way too low, drowned out by the backing singers. Even when he spoke to the crowd it was very difficult to make out what he was saying. Alice was on good form, but again, the volume on the lead vocals was way too low. Spoiled what was to be a good night.

The backing vocals - i was at london last night and the backing vocals were exceedingly odd, too loud and very weird.I thought Poison was a bit off. Not sure why.
The opening didnt really work for me either - i think because welcome to the show and lock me up are essentially doing the exact same thing (only lock me up does it better)
some absolute bangers -bed of nails, snakebite, lost in america, he's back.
I felt the "horror" section was a bit off - while the songs were ostensibly good, they didnt "flow" very well for me. it felt disjointed. normally he tried to weave a small narrative into it but it seemed absent.
The screens were a cool idea. but i didnt really look at them very often.
Nita was clearly the standout, to the point that when it came to band introductions the crowd noticeably cheered ALLOT louder at that point. She is genuinely worth every penny.
I jumped around and screamed every word - which probably annoyed allot of people because the horrendous seats we were in.
I got presale tickets thinking i would get better seats. nope! Seats were rubbish and when you see the people in front of me, it baffles me. Some people look like they have not been to a gig in 40+ years, how did they get better tickets than me!?!?

Re: Alice Cooper Setlist/New Tour Comment
Had good seat for Leeds and thought it was a really good show as always, sadly i was in a bit of pain having taken a fall and hurt my back the day before so didn’t enjoy as much as i should. The pain got so bad i missed Hammersmith last night and ended up in A & E drugged up to lessen the pain, just threw up on all the meds i’m on, so not a good couple days!
Lead guitar on Social Debris. Album on iTunes, Amazon & Spotify, title track featured on TV

Weird backing vocals?? What did they do? Didn't notice any.Saint&Sinner wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2024 10:27 amThe backing vocals - i was at london last night and the backing vocals were exceedingly odd, too loud and very weird.I thought Poison was a bit off. Not sure why.

What would be the horror section for you?
Duh, the audience cheers for the hot blonde. Shocker.
I think the screens are a great addition. Not for the ones in the front row, as you barely notice them, but for the people further in the back. Also it elevates the show into the now and make it a bit more modern. I hope they keep those.
So glad I I don't have to deal with seats on the regular, but those are often my thoughts when things do go my way.

Re: Alice Cooper Setlist/New Tour Comment
Like many others I would like to hear Lock Me Up in its entirety. It sounds great and is a great opener. The last few tours Alice has brought something back from Raise Your Fist and Yell and all those songs have worked great. I also would like to throw in, I know they did it for about a month a few years ago with Kane but Nita can more than handle "Freedom." I would like to see that return.
Just my two cents here but I am not crazy about the screens. Like others have said, you either don't pay any attention to them or if you do they can be a huge distraction. I would like see a new stage setup for next year. Also in regard to setlists, I know no one is going to be satisfied completely, it is just not possible. That being said, I have always thought obviously Eighteen, School's Out and Poison were massive international hits. Those aren't going anywhere and shouldn't, though I am burned out on them especially School's Out. But you keep them in and then something like No Mister Nice Guy (that opening guitar riff is iconic) and you always have to do a couple from Welcome To My Nightmare. But there are many other songs that can be changed out and I don't think it is going to hurt the crowd.
I would like to see something like "The Quiet Room" done for a tour replacing The Ballad of Dwight Frye or doing a combo. You could do something like "Road Rats Forever" which is close enough to the original Road Rats to satisfy old school fans while also pushing the Road album some. I think fans would go nuts over one ZCS or Dada tune and I would include say two more tunes from 2000 and beyond.

Re: Alice Cooper Setlist/New Tour Comment
I agree about the screens. I think they add to the show and on some moments they are quite interesting but Nightmare Castle was quite more atmospheric. I’d love to see another stage concept next year but I think the screens are going to stay there because they are part of the HV shows too.
