Roxie also seemed to suggest the band would be wearing masks for the whole show (Alice of course can't, being the prime vocalist) but I could have misunderstood that.
I haven’t seen anything up on YouTube yet from last nights show, but if the band are wearing masks for the whole show, the backing vocals are going to suffer!

Though it would look theatrical on He’s Back (The Men and Women Behind the Masks!)
No show last night. No masks on stage.

The first clip from the first show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ib8NjcdTo1w

No signs of a setlist yet.

So the 3 songs added to the set list from Detroit Stories are ‘Rock & Roll’, ‘Go Man Go’ and ‘Social Debris’.

Glad to see Go Man Go in the set. I imagine that'll have some good energy and drive. Would've liked to see how Wonderful World works live, but it's still early days - hopefully some more songs can be worked / rotated in on future legs.

Anyone think Alice is getting some help from background tracks? I saw KISS right before the pandemic broke in early 2020 and it is so obvious that Paul Stanley is singing to tracks most of the time. I saw Judas Priest this week and I looked for it, but I think Rob’s vocals were inconsistent enough (not bad, just truly live), that he wasn’t. Alice is sounding real good for a 73 year old and his speaking voice seems a little weaker to me from 2021 interviews.

Ryan Roxie addressed that in his tour kick-off podcast yesterday. No backing tracks. Everyone sings, including Sheryl off-stage.

Back in 2010 when Alice had laryngitis, he sounded awful in interviews, but still managed to do a show every night. It was real: his vocals sounded rougher, but still great, and were obviously live. Alice's singing voice is just really strong, still.

You're right about Paul Stanley, though.

I was able to watch the entire show by piecing together a few YouTube posts.

Looks like another great night, as usual.

Interesting setlist, the new songs sounded great live.

This is the first NY / NJ I’ve missed since 2000.

They really looked like they were having a great time.

I can’t wait until next year’s tour.

:)

And you know that time difference, full well. Posting about "last night" when the band is quite likely still on stage at the moment is misleading. Of course there weren't too many videos, yet. It's often short live feeds and clips during the show. Uploads happen later.

When I saw them perform My Stars in 2019, the piano was obviously prerecorded.

And so are the intros to "Poison" and "Feed My Frankenstein." But the question was about Alice's vocals.

You're right about Paul Stanley, though.
Paul always sang in a higher and more difficult range. Alice developed a comfortable midrange. Must be the distance runner in him - Paul sprinted, Alice paced.

Wow! Go see Alice and Ace Frehley if you can. The only song dropped from the last tour was Raped and Freezin'. The show is even better and the band was even tighter. Ace was fantastic and very likeable. 6,000 people (a full house) were rocked hard.
