Live at Glasgow '82 - 2lp RSD 20202

Post by mestreech » Mon Mar 02, 2020 5:52 pm

Hi,

last year announced on Record Store day (RDS) on Canada and suddenly withdrawn now it's final!!!
This year (18th april) on RSD RHINO/WARNER wil release a double vinyl edition of the Alice cooper's SPECIAL FORCES tour.
Recorded by Radio Clyde in Glasgow(Scotland) it will be released as a double vinyl.
Info is from the magazine LONG LIVE VINYL from London so I think it will be a worldwide release.
3 songs are already released : Under my wheels / Model citizen / Who do you think you are.
As a vinylfreak I'm very excited about this one also because it was a KILLER show.

Excellent news. Think I have three tape copies all of variable quality and one straight from the radio broadcast which is good. Remember the gig well as it was my first time seeing Alice live.

I also saw Alice live for the very first time on this tour at the Hammersmith Odeon as it was then. The excitement I felt when the lights grew dim and the music started and the man appeared .... a wow moment for me. After almost 10 years of being a fan this was the real deal. Hidden in my old tape collection I too have a fairly decent recording of the Glasgow show radio broadcast. Not yet rediscovered my passion for vinyl, shame for me I suppose

This is a great release. Soundboard quality recording from a special era. Not sure if it's the full show or not. The only thing I didn't like from these shows were the drawn out encores.

All I can say is "It's about time!".

Hopefully a dvd of a live show from this incredible era of Alice will also find it's way to release. I'd hope it would be the black & white version which is all over YouTube as it does justice to the total insanity of that version of Alice!

Hands down---my favorite era of Alice and by far the best incarnation of the character!

I normally avoid the Record Store Day stampede but I'll be making every effort to get this.

Would be great to have an album package which included some stories and pictures from the gig as a lot happened that night in that legendary venue.

The atmosphere as Alice started was superb and one of the best I'd experienced there. It was quickly followed by the shock for many of seeing the new Alice. I think the third biggest cheer of the evening, after the start and Schools Out was when he let his hair down!

The noise after Under My Wheels was something else as well. There's a flavour of that on the live release.

Bloody hell, I just tracked down a bootleg copy of this after 37 years of looking... Typical. Greatest gig I have ever seen. I still remember the atmosphere as the lights went down and the sound of gunfire filled the Apollo. Magical.

I saw the same tour with opening as you.
Can't dim the lights & play a tape of gunfire anymore. It would cause a panic, not cheering! :/

Great news. It's the one radio broadcast from post original band, that hasn't had a pre-broadcast source circulated. I hope I can snag a copy. Haven't lined up for a RSD since 2014 but I may for this release. It's listed as an RSD only release.

So I hope it's taken from pre-broadcast tapes and School's Out doesn't fade out

Have to say the album cover is really weak. I'm guessing it is a gatefold which makes me wonder what the inside will be like.

It's a fair bet there won't be any photos of Alice or the band, which would be disappointing. Some shots from that era, especially at the Apollo itself, would be fantastic.

A little over ten years ago I got him to autograph my 12" of For Britain Only with the three live tracks and I actually felt a bit guilty about it when I saw the look on his face on seeing himself in that state again. I'm just glad I didn't bring the I Love America 12" with the way he looks on that!

I agree with you (shock horror!)
If it's NOT a gatefold sleeve with some really cool photos inside I will be very disappointed, as I was with the Texas '73 RSD vinyl sleeve.

Let's be honest, most of us have had this recording for decades so in many ways, as with most vinyl reissues, we're really buying the packaging, and to just throw something together is pretty poor when it wouldn't take much more to make a really nice package. It doesn't need to be 'Astroturf' level, just something that looks good, especially considering how much they charge for new vinyl now.
The size of vinyl sleeves just lends itself to quality artwork/design in a way CDs don't. It's one of the main reasons it's become popular again. To not make use of that is a waste.

Very well put.

It'd be an amusing twist if a gatefold cover inner consisted of photos of a Special Forces era Bill Crowe.

I do hope for a great cover but as I have this show on vinyl and cd's I look forward to a excellent sound and mastering.
The boot was good but I hope this one will top it.
