Freedom for Frankenstein BoDF
Can anyone tell me the year/venue that Ballad of Dwight Fry was recorded on that compilation and if it is available on video/youtube. It sounds similiar to the Nightmare Returns version (doesnt cut ot the end lyrics "I grabbed my hat...") and the heavy of synth on it would suggest that era but I just think it sounds a better version than the one on the DVD. I would check the sleeve notes but all my CDs are ripped to iTunes and cases in the loft.
Thanks
Thanks

From rgaillie:

I think it's from Cincinnati on "The Nightmare Returns Tour".

I'm almost sure it is the version that had been put on the B-side of the UK 3-track maxi-single of Poison. I bought this record when it was released.

Cincinnati March 6, 1987. A number of tracks from the radio broadcast of this show were used as B-Sides.

That particular live version is one of my favourites.
You could tell that whoever put together that compilation was a bit of a fan.

Yes. It was veteran and dedicated Alice Cooper supporter Andrew Carpenter who essentially made the whole thing happen.

I have to say of all of the "Best of" compilations put out other than the box set (which obviously was far more extensive) and perhaps the original greatest hits album, I always thought this was the best one.

I had lost quite a bit of interest at this point. What makes this one so special? Is it the inclusion of the live b sides?

Apart from the interesting live songs and b-sides, the cd booklet was excellentpitkin88 wrote:cooperrocks wrote:I have to say of all of the "Best of" compilations put out other than the box set (which obviously was far more extensive) and perhaps the original greatest hits album, I always thought this was the best one.

Re: Freedom for Frankenstein BoDF
this compilation contains only two songs of the ACG (BODF, ST) and thus not the obvious hits (NMMNG,SO and so on..)
it looked like an update for the eighties..
and then of course songs like It Rained all Night, hardly to be found elsewhere..

I agree what some others said. For one, I enjoy all of Alice's career and like his solo stuff as much, if not more than the original group (know I am in the minority). There were several compliations and Best of's that were put with Alice's 80's and early 90's stuff on them. I thought this album highlighted some of my favorite 80's stuff all the way through 1994's excellent The Last Temptation album (one of my five favorite Alice albums ever). But what really made it special was the B sides and the live tracks which sound incredible, including Alice doing part of "Wind Up Toy" which is a song I wish Alice would bring back live. The booklet was great as well. Overall, it was the strongest package of Alice's mid 80's work through TLT.
