The Blackout Albums

Post by Lucius Morthem » Mon Jul 15, 2013 2:10 am

What o you think of Alice's Idea of re-doing 4 songs of each blackout album and do them with the actual band ?

My opinion ? It'd be great! and I Hope he does it!

He has been talking about it for years, in case anyone thinks he's only just thought of it.

If he ever is gonna redo something it MUST be Constrictor. His worst album ever just before ACAS

the album that has "teenage Frankenstein","give it up","the world needs guts" and "he's back" AND was seen as his comeback album? disagree. very strong album, reflects the era,and I wouldn't change a note personally.

I don't know about redoing the songs today but a healthy Bob Ezrin and great band would have made Dada a total classic and I think it's great as is.

I am hesitant about redoing because Alice and Bob are older, sober, and stable in their lives and thinking. The "attitude" and looseness of spirit of those blackout albums will be hard for them to reproduce. Still, I'd buy it out of curiosity and because it's a nod to his less popular but still interesting work.

Don't think it's necessary to re-do them. While they are all quirky, each one has something that makes it special to fans (For instance, I would change nothing on FLUSH THE FASHION, although SPECIAL FORCES might get a tweak here and there). Also, they are timelines of him working under adverse conditions and still coming up with interesting work.

Why re do them? Because Alice doesn't emember them !

In his own words there are incredible songs in which he didn't put an effort

Redoing them will be easier to perform them live

Also Flush the fashion doesn't count on the blackout as far as I Know, never heard of Alice including it on the list

That's what I thought, but Alice only mentioned these three in the article.

always found it strange that Alice included Flush the Fashion in his black-out albums. there was Clones, which was a single, and there was Pain, that was performed in the Roadie movie.
Unless black-out here means: less successfull :8):

He's referring to the fact that he remembers very little about them because he was so impaired.

I'm confused!

Do you mean Constrictor is worse than all his other albums because of the delivery / recording of the songs (rather than the lyrics)? I imagine the former but in some cases surely redoing them wouldn't necessarily make for a better album?

If you dislike it so much why would you want him to re-do it? That's really weird!!

Constrictor was a shock to many as it was heavy metal which Alice never was. It also had the WORST lyrics of any Alice album. A LOT of fans got into Alice via this album so it means a lot to some. The best I can say is I would have liked to hear the demos or what he recorded with Neal and Dennis as the album is a dog.
