Sorry....that honor (or honour) goes to the one and only Glen Buxton.*

*(It was a close vote with Keith Richards and Keith Moon close seconds.)

Ultimate Guitar had something similar to this last week, (Greatest Rock Rebel) and Johnny Cash was voted number 1.

My immediate thoughts were: Jim Morrison, John Lydon, Kurt Cobain, Iggy and most of motely crue - it's between those I believe. Cooper looks the ultimate rebel on stage though!

Like many of you, I was around in the '71-'73 era when Alice (& band) were viewed as a subversive influence on youth. The songs, stage shows, and band image were considered "shocking". By '75, it abated tremendously (or became somewhat accepted) although "Cold Ethyl" received a lot of attention. By '76, the last "shock element" seemed to be the title "Goes to Hell". Point being- Alice (& band) were the first to really instill a sense of a vile threat to the youth culture. Of course, so many people missed the humor and camp of it all. What a great band they were.

Correct. Alice Cooper (the band) could be considered rebels. Alice himself - less so. Alice can be labeled an Icon or Innovator or even a Legend....but I don't think he can claim "Ultimate Rebel". He's drifted far away from that title, IMO.

Alice has had such a long winding career and is now media friendly. Perhaps his greatest rebellion was against rocknroll stereotyping with release of ballads and no more love etc in 77. He matured and took a diversion from rnr rebel a long time ago.

Alice Copper undoubtedly where rebels of the highest order

Shep Gordon the master sorcerer/rebel , early on saw that the revulsion and the shock which came from violating an audiences deeply held spiritual and moral sensibilities was a form of power and a path to fame and profit .

Alice Cooper the entity ( :p ) is rebellious, I don't think ANY of the band were to any extent. Just my opinion.

You don't know much about Glen Buxton in that case.

Don't think you can look much further Than Keith Moon or Keith Richards in this catagory. 2 books, Keith Moons autobiography " Moon The Loon ", written by Dougal Butler, his body gaurd at the time, absolutely brilliant and Keith Richards " My Life ", a fantastic read from the start to ending. Both unlike the usual drivel you see about this subject, another worthwhile mention is Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitts joint effort from a few years ago. IMO

Don't get me wrong, I love Coop like a brother. He was definitely, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the most rebellious rockers at one time.
But, now, let's face it, he's a golf wielding, non cussing, born again, drug and alcohol free, Republican, family man in clown makeup. :teach:
