That was a cool view, just in the fact I've never seen anything where Frank has talked about Alice Cooper. Also really cool that Frank kept referring to them as "They" where as Mike just kept talking about Alice himself.

Interesting, thanks. I was a bit surpised that it seems that the story isn't really embellished by the Coop!?

True. I always thought Alice was probably exagarating a it on a detail or two. Now we can see what he usually tells is word for word what Zappa himself was telling ! "Bizarre", isn't it ?

Of course, Frank and Alice could have shaped the tale between them..both were masters of rock spin..after all was it not Frank who was supposed to have told Alice not to deny the, dreaded long running, chicken story..both could tell a good tale..just a thought

Mmm.... good point, recoop. That said, all of it is probably true - after all, why would'nt it be ? By the way, has anybody ever seen any picture of Alice and Zappa together ? I've never seen one !

Damn, I was just starting to think Cooper had it in him to tell a completely true tale!? I often thought the bit about coming down at 6am with a coffee was 'Coop speak', maybe it was 'Zap/Coop speak'???!
I'll tell you something else; IF Zap had shaved his beard off and blacked his eye sockets, he could have doubled for Alice!!!!
Interesting, you don't think.................By the way, has anybody ever seen any picture of Alice and Zappa together ? I've never seen one !

Re: Frank Zappa , Mike Douglas 1976 talking about.Alice Coop
There's also no confirmation if Zappa came downstairs in his underwear or starkers.
I think the stories of mass exodus may not be literally true, but it is possible the band generated some bewildered and possibly upset audience members. I think FZ piqued interest in AC was genuine for a short time but the time was brief and he moved on to other things. I also don't think it was anything Alice specific, I think Frank found Wildman Fischer/The GTO's and Buckly all a bit too much to take on and the financial rewards just weren't there. In fact quite the opposite - it was all very draining and come August of '69 Zappa was about to give The Mothers the boot so FZ had plenty on his plate and Alice was more of a passing fancy.
What was the end result of the Cohen/Straight/ACG lawsuit of 1972? Anyone?

Actually it 7:20 AM
Has anyone heard what brand of coffee Zappa was drinking and if he passed wind when he sat down to listen to AC? I have heard that Frank scratched his balls through most of the audition.
Personally, I never believed the entire audition story. There is no way any Buxton I know would ever get up before 7:00AM....right hon?

- no he didn't pass wind, but he hadn't taken his morning wizz yet, so once he saw what the commotion was, he went back for a quick leak.
- that's overstated, he repostioned ONCE and everyone says he was scratching THE WHOLE TIME
and GB didn't get up for 7 - he still hadn't turned in yet

The former were victorious.
The former were victorious.
Re: Frank Zappa , Mike Douglas 1976 talking about.Alice Coop
The story is true. As a matter of fact the band set up their equipment in the hall and played just outside of Zappa´s bedroom door!
Also, the bandmembers stayed awake the previous night so they wouldn´t have to wake up that early and risk being too late (!) for the audition.
I had this confirmed by a person who was there and remembers it very well.

Re: Frank Zappa , Mike Douglas 1976 talking about.Alice Coop
I tend to think that Zappa gave the Coopers the deal on the basis that they were 'bizarre' and also to maybe stop them pestering him. Anyway, I also tend to think that he would have never been interested in what they eventually became - his interest in them was one of morbid curiosity of such a 'way out' band, and they became a lot more 'mainstream' for want of a better word.

Well, if you actually watch the footage, you'll see he confirms this (and I would have assumed that you already knew that).
> and also to maybe stop them pestering him.
There's no evidence that they were "pestering".

Yes, he does say that in the interview actually. I suppose there was no need for me to re-iterate that. Fair enough.>I tend to think that Zappa gave the Coopers the deal on the basis that they were 'bizarre'

No evidence that you are aware of Andy - remember that. There's no evidence that they were "pestering".
