As terrible as that was, it just shows that Alice's sense of humor hasn't changed much.
Re: keepin' halloween alive
That's one take that I'm sure Dennis, Mike, Neal and Glen didn't agree with.TeresofBlood wrote:As terrible as that was, it just shows that Alice's sense of humor hasn't changed much.

Re: keepin' halloween alive
Alice was heavily inspired by bad TV and had a reputation for absurd theatrics. I assure you he didn't go into that show thinking he was doing something good. He knew it was going to be terrible, but he wanted to do it because it would be fun - sort of how Uwe Boll gets great actors to be in his movies. I think you're being a bit harsh.
Re: keepin' halloween alive
Yes I am being harsh but it was all part of the calculated separation from the band and IMO it (it being the wondrously phenomenal ACG) was never the same. Both sides were diluted beyond repair only Alice was able to carry on forward with the name and all of the fruits of the others hard work.TeresofBlood wrote: I think you're being a bit harsh.

How this is even pertinent to this thread is beyond me.Parish wrote:Yes I am being harsh but it was all part of the calculated separation from the band and IMO it (it being the wondrously phenomenal ACG) was never the same. Get over it.

We were discussing the deterioration of Alice's writing. I was tracing the origins of when this started.RemarkablyInsincere wrote:

Get Over It is another good example but that was the Eagles...

Not really... I see a bunch of people excited about a new song and pretty much one guy complaining about it.Parish wrote: We were discussing the deterioration of Alice's writing. I was tracing the origins of when this started.
Said guy has derailed the entire thread talking about something that's not really even directly applicable to this song and yet somehow we're now debating the merits of the breakup of the original line-up yet AGAIN.

You know I like you but you're beginning to get on my nerves - not only is your post dumb but that subject has been debated many times on this board. It has nothing to do with this thread.

Just a reminder to keep things friendly and not get side tracked into the realms of off topic. Parish, we all have our own opinion but as has already been pointed out you're being harsh. Some of my favourite albums are well after the break up of the original band. But this topic is to discuss the new song, not old news. You may not like the new song but there's no need to keep voicing your opinion that Alice has done nothing worth listening to since the '70s. It's bound to start more arguments and that's no fun for anyone.

ok to get back to the subject (stop bickering children) Alice was obviously aiming for good fun rocking fluff, bit too much fluff for me, i was hoping for something atmospheric along the lines of 'this house is haunted' or going back even further 'Former lee warmer', this one has a catchy chorus but is very banal, still an improvement on ACAS.
Re: keepin' halloween alive
Exactly, thanks for not taking the Emperor's New Clothes route here. My apologies to all if I carried on too long. I've been a fan for ever and sometimes get carried away with my criticisms. But just like any difference with a family member there is great love here...I'll behavedadascot wrote: bit too much fluff for me, i was hoping for something atmospheric along the lines of 'this house is haunted' or going back even further 'Former lee warmer', this one has a catchy chorus but is very banal, still an improvement on ACAS.

Re: keepin' halloween alive
All these bands you named are not currently producing music with the same acclaim as they did during their heyday. And I think that was the point that Dave Conway was making, so I agreed.Parish wrote:Eaglesglamprincess wrote:Good point, Dave.Dave Conway wrote: Lets just be pleased he is still putting out new stuff. Consider who else was charting in 1972 and ask what are they doing now?
Springsteen
Neil Young
Tom Petty
The Beatles
Stones
Fleetwood Mac
I really could go on and on...

Re: keepin' halloween alive
I don't think so. While I think Alice did some things in the mid/late 70s which were not as complementary with his image, I don't think his appearance on the Snoop Sisters was one of them. He was playing a "warlock" and his performance was very much complementary with the villainous Alice character and Alice Cooper image. It was after seeing him on the Snoop Sisters that I became such a huge fan.
Re: keepin' halloween alive
Can you explain to me what that means??
I'm from Holland and can understand English but not the slang and expressions.
eric.

Re: keepin' halloween alive
Do you mean 'jumped the shark'?
I had it explained to me like this...
On Happy Days when Fonz jumped over a shark on waterskis in one episode it signified that the franchise had at this point betrayed it's original premise, contradicting the initial plan of the beginning.
Please someone correct me if I'm wrong on this; I myself asked what this meant a while back and I remember it going something like the above.
In Canada we call it 'melting the igloo', but meh, what are you gonna do?
In the meantime, enjoy...

Re: keepin' halloween alive
I, for one, enjoy this little ditty and always welcome new Coop material. It's a great little surprise for fans, harmless fun and I feel it's about time Alice did a straight out Halloween song. Very appropriate and I think it could be brilliant strategy on the Coop's part. 'Tis the season and a Cooper Halloween song just screams radio airplay. It could be quite possible he could have stumbled across a seasonal hit. Some have already posted this song is getting some airplay...so who knows?
Cooper took the stage, put on the best rock show since Gloria Estefan/Miami Sound Machine in 1987.
