Neil Gaiman The Last Temptation Re-released

Post by Ain't Talkin' Bout' Love » Mon Dec 01, 2008 3:50 pm

My brother gave me this for my birthday, I had no idea it was re-released. All 3 comics in a hardcover book. It's all black and white, but it has a very cool intro by Gaiman. Has anybody else picked this up? It's the first time I've got to read the comics, they're really friggin' good.

Yeah, I have a coupel copies that I've had for a while. Had a paperback of the same thing as well that I gave away quite some time ago. I like the original colour comic books but I think that it looks very classy in black and white.

It is a shame The Last Temptation came out in 1994 when the music scene had changed to grunge. I have always thought the album is one of the best of Alice's career and the comicbooks were very cool as well. I still listen to this album fairly often.

It's one of my favourites, cooperrocks - If asked to name my current "top 5" Alice albums (or albums by any artist, for that matter) The Last Temptation would be in there. As it came out a few years before I 'discovered' Alice I've had to backtrack to get all the comic books in their various forms. It was only recently (in the last year) that I was able to get hold of The Compleat to add to my collection. I've always thought that it had wonderful potential to be a good TV special, a la WTMN.

Could not get into the whole album for ages, only song by song, but now it is very enjoyable onthe ear.

I was the same Kevin, at first I didn't like it that much, but now I really love it.

And I agree that comic was really cool. Too bad it did have sequels. I was already a Gaiman fan then so that was really special.

Thought it was excellent from day one. Should have sold millions. The music world can be unjust sometimes.

Have seen the hardcover black and white in the local comic store: didn't buy it due to price, but it was pretty! Enjoy it!

I think its been 4 years plus since this last discussed-but I have been dutiful and added to an existing thread. Anyway just bought the three comics on ebay for under £10 on ebay- really wich I had owned these when the album came out. Really adds to the story- I really loved the album when it came out-anybody else subsequently discovered the comics and relistened to the album??

Only thought about the comics as an illustration student I know mentioned how close Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean -this rang a bell- I rate the comics highly, the cover art highly and the album even higher..what do you think?

This is good news-I have all three comics in a softcover collection entitled THE COMPLEAT ALICE COOPER with a great forward by Gaiman and another great article in the back by Dave Dickson who wrote lots of articles for KERRANG!
The more people aware of this and the superb album, the better! :)
Agree with Kevin and Dragonlady, it did take awhile to get into, but I feel it's absolutely one of his all time best solo works!

When it came out I felt was the first true Alice album since From the Inside which is another tower of strength...both those albums FTI and TLT took the Alice character somewhere else in a concept (although recognise influence of real life on FTI and we have discussed FTI can be seen as a series of vignettes-accept that)..the albums in between for me were enjoyable but they didnt feel for me that there was a central Alice character in there narrating-Alice as showman perfect- I would love to see a production of this now...For me the best two albums I bought in/around 94 were this and Division Bell.
