Another strange one thats not in there is Deep Purple, or at least Ritchie Blackmore... although i have the feeling Blackmore would tell them where to go (and he might of) I think he refused some type of award because he thought it was commercialised crap

The whole thing is I'm sure most of the people involved in the process are more than aware of him and what he's done. After all, part of the voting is supposed to be done by so-called "experts." It's just for whatever reason, they just don't feel the need to vote him or them in I think.

Some of the bands who were inducted hadn't done anything for years and still were able to get in (The Kinks, Dave Clark Five, and of course the face of Rock N' Rolls, Patti Smith.) Then there were big bands who had great success throughout that had been eligible but weren't inducted in for several years or not even yet.

If it has to take some big comeback for Alice to get in, yet what he had done before or was doing anyway wasn't good enough (which I believe is what they are supposed to be judging him on anyway,) then I'd just tell them to shove it personally, but that's just me.

Same thing with Rush. They've always had great success. Their tours always sell very well and their albums have been consistently in the top 5 on the U.S. charts and charts worldwide, as well as arguably being the most influential band musically. You just can't escape what they have done musically and they STILL aren't in even after having been eligible for doing on a decade now.

Personally, I'm astonished KISS isn't in either.

So I think it's a case where while these people have guidelines to vote bands in, they apparently have even bigger personal guidelines to vote against them. Unfortunately, they don't listen to fans either since as we all know, the fans know less than "the experts." This is why petitions and letters end up being pointless in the end unfortunately.

You may be right, WYM, in that a big comeback for Alice may not make a difference to the nominating committee. But I do think Steven Crayn may be right too because Aerosmith was nominated very easily. And I have my doubts that Aerosmith would have been nominated if they hadn't made such a big comeback because Aerosmith was not really considered that original or important to the so-called "experts". I think the fact that they were able to become huge all over again made it more difficult for the "experts" to ignore them and the "experts" will jump on the bandwagon too even if they claim they are unaffected by those things.

I totally agree with your comment that the "experts" know who Alice Cooper is. I know many of the names of the people on the nominating committee and those are well-known critics and music industry people who are definitely aware of Alice Cooper and his accomplishments.

As for Kiss, I am not surprised that Kiss are not in either, actually. The critics have always hated Kiss and considered Kiss the poor man's Alice Cooper. For example, when Kiss had their big reunion, Rolling Stone made a point of saying that Kiss would never be as good as the original Alice Cooper group. The "experts" have always preferred Alice Cooper to Kiss, so if Alice Cooper isn't in, they aren't nominating Kiss either.

Great post, WYM... Why Rush, Alice and Kiss are not there is a real head scratcher. I believe that it boils down to snobbery.

I STILL like the Sex Pistols reaction to being inducted.... Here it is again:

Its Jann Wenner's private club and if he doesn't like someone's right wing politics they are not in, period.

On a side note, I am happy to see membership in Wenner's US magazine off 40% due to cancellations last week after the despicable "hit job" and magazine cover on Palin.

I agree with you completely. Even Rolling Stone has become a joke now.

I agree with you Loomis that Rolling Stone has become a joke. I think Rolling Stone "jumped the shark" in the 1980s.
