Muscle of love expanded

Post by mestreech » Fri Oct 25, 2024 1:12 pm

Yes, finally Muscle of love gets expanded.

The first song is on spotify /TIDAL etc.
Teenage lament’74 (acoustic diversion).

On TIDAL there is a list what is on the second disc (first disc is normal album)
Every song has and early version or acoustic/alternate version + two single versions of Teenage and Muscle.
No mention of anything live so far.
Very glad they gave us this.

No let’s hope for something live and for the same treatment for LOVE IT TO DEATH.

Here's the song. This is a clear case of "less is more." The original background vocals are totally gone, which I find to be a breath of fresh air. I wonder who's playing that acoustic guitar?

This sounds like some new concoction they just decided to create from the original tapes. I'm not really a fan of this type of stuff, to be honest. I'm not against "remixes", especially if they improve upon sound quality, but I do feel they should retain the spirit of the original release.

Did the band at least have input into this? Or did some mixing engineer go in and create all new alternate versions just for the sake of an expanded version?

They did something similar with John Lennon's Mindgames album and it's all pretty irrelevant if you ask me.

Could you copy/paste exactly what it's listing? No way of accessing the info with a subscription.

That's what I'm wondering.

If it's from 1973 then great, but if they HAVE just been created to have something to add to a deluxe version my interest in them is significantly lower.

I wonder if this is the exciting news that he said was coming out after the tour.

Honestly I doubt it. Alice rarely talks about these sorts of reissues, and I don`t think he overly cares about them to be honest. I would expect he's talking about something new that excites him now.

Answering myself here, but apparently it was created in 1973 as a guitar/vocal mix/demo and has simply been cleaned up in 2024. So it IS genuine.

Very interesting news. Thanks for the info./thread mestreech and to everyone else who has posted comments, etc. with some more info. about it above. Totally unexpected (by me, at least).

Edit: to follow up part of metreech's last sentence in the OP, with a (S?)DE issue of MOL apparently imminent, can they possibly avoid giving what would be the last remaining 'classic Era' ACG album (LITD) the same treatment? I'd think not.

Cool! Looks like it's available now - no mention of a release date. Thanks Rhino. I'm all in for the extras and BluRay. It's also coming out in pink vinyl: https://store.rhino.com/en/rhino-store/ ... 13949.html
I very much appreciate the corrugated cardboard box on both packages. Odd that they chose to do this album before LITD.

It seems they (WB/Rhino) have problems to find decent extra's for the LitD set.
But let us first enjoy this release!!

Hey, to each his own, right? As a paltry explanation, I see this new version exhibiting Alice’s gifts as a vocalist. Glad to finally hear him without the obtrusive (and IMO unnecessary) background vox, which (to me) were too strong in the original mix. To me, Labelle has lived longer through this song than they did on their own.

Just pointing out my opinion. Happy to know other takes on this topic.

PS: I’m going to trust that it’s Glen strumming that acoustic guitar. Don’t tell me otherwise.
