Were There Any Alice Songs You Were Surprised Didn't Become Hits?
I was thinking about the various singles Alice has released in his career. Obviously, a lot of times when radio and MTV mattered, it came down to the record label really pushing a song. In this day and age, it is virtually impossible for an older artist to get any radio airplay at all for new music. But were there any tracks that were released as singles, you thought had a shot at being a hit?
For me and I know the song was a little bit heavy, but I thought "Freedom" had a shot. It was very much an anthem and catchy enough. I really think the record label Alice was on at the time and a little bit more of a budget spent on the video for Freedom could have gotten it at least some radio airplay.

So many good things on LITD and I certainly understand 18 being in the right place at the right time and catching the mood of a generation and country, but Caught in a Dream should have gone top 20.

Under My Wheels really deserved to be a big hit. It certainly contained plenty of key ingredients to be so. I think Dennis may have semi-jokingly said it might have done better had it been called something like 'Telephone is Ringing' and he may have a point.
There was a video clip on here not so long ago where Alice was asked this very question and, if I recall rightly, he named Lost in America and Love's A Loaded Gun.
I reckon Love's A Loaded Gun would have had a decent chance at going big had it been around early enough to follow Poison into the charts.

It blows my mind that the Last Temptation wasn't a huge hit. Bad Place Alone should have been a hit single in my book

I think why Lost in America or anything from The Last Temptation didn’t hit big was because it was the time of Grunge and bands from Seattle. TLT had some straight up rock songs from a guy who had been around for 20 years. The rock establishment was so intent on putting bands in certain boxes. You couldn’t just be a rock band. You had to be labeled as Grunge, Hardcore, Death Metal, Stoner, Thrash or whatever else they had. Very disheartening and alienating period in the rock scene.

Gimme or Blow Me A Kiss. If either of these had hit it may have resulted in Alice’s industrial phase lasting a bit longer. Loved Brutal Planet.

What baby wants from W2MN could have probably got some traction due to Kesha's involvement
and maybe if the video for the sound of A had some celebrity Alice fan inclusions, that could have increased the interest in it as a single, Depp, Manson, Simmons, Grohl, zombie et al in the make up, interspersed with the 'normal' fans

I was really surprised nothing was done with that. Plus, it's just a good, fun song, IMO.philip1985 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2024 2:19 amWhat baby wants from W2MN could have probably got some traction due to Kesha's involvement

Not quite the thread here I know but imagine what might have come next if Love at Your Convenience was a big hit….

"What baby wants" was such a missed opportunity. I just remember my daughters and friends all liking it - all of whom do not like alice cooper hahahaha
Brutal Planet should have been a hit. But from what i remember of the promotion it was kinda sporadic and weirdly focused. It kinda felt like they were trying to sell to the old school rather than the kids into Rammstein and Marilyn Manson etc.
I was about 19 when it came out and remember all my circle of metal friends loving how heavy it was.

Freedom actually still remains somewhat of a cult anti PMRC anthem in the metal underground.

"Clones (We're All)" got to #40 for one week on Billboard Charts.cooperrocks wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2024 3:23 amClones did actually very briefly chart. While Heaven Wept wrote: ↑Thu Oct 17, 2024 11:11 amI think the following could have been hits given the right push...
