A&E Biography Special

Post by mot$$33 » Wed Jun 26, 2024 2:57 am

Just watched this, as I had it taped from original air date on Sunday. During the show, they were showing the OG in studio in 2022. At the end, the special tied the story up with the group coming full circle and “together”. Comments were made about how good it was to get back together and “we’ll see what the future holds”. I came on here just now, expecting to see lots of discussion. For those who saw it, what’d ya think? I feel like it all but confirmed new music is coming.

As it was only on in the US (and a subscription channel?), I would guess most people probably haven't actually seen it.

I have, and agree. I thought they did a pretty good job over all, and framing it with the original band together in a studio was a good way to bookend it. But of course we already KNEW they had been in the studio together and that they have new music of some sort recorded. We've known fora long time.

What we still don't know for sure is if and when that material will be released. Will it be a bit at a time - as has been happening since W2MN - or will we get a full original band album. That is the question. But if it IS a full album I would suggest this show - which was heavily promoted on the band members own social channels - *could* be a prelude to some sort of official announcement.

Just watched this and agree Si , the whole thing seemed like a reminder that Alice Cooper was originally a band and that band is still a creative entity in 2024 .
The doc was a quick but good refresher on the career of Alice Cooper , they kind of jumped over Killer and the black out albums but at least it mentioned Alice's drug period and recovery . Loved the Dennis clips and the Dali memories . I don't think I had heard the story about signing the tablecloth before .

It appears to me that A&E jumped the gun by showing this out of step with reality, but it’s somewhat understandable. They evidently shot this two years ago, and the soundbites they got fit the narrative - “Alice Cooper is all of us. Not just me.” That may be paraphrasing, but it’s practically one of the first things that Alice says on video. All told, this documentary seems to be a victory lap for the band. My concern now is that something has upset the apple cart. Hopefully not. It’s too bad that the timelines didn’t mesh, and this documentary didn’t back up the big reveal of a long awaited reunion. Instead, now we have even more reason to question “WTF IS GWAN ON HERE?”
Move aside, mere drop of water - let the ocean pass.

Over on dr drearys forum , I asked Dennis about the fact that now we have public confirmation they were working together , if he’d confirm. That was days ago and he usually answers everyone in a timely manner. I wondered if seeing as it was 2022, coujd this be “ Detroit stories “ sessions we were seeing?

The date given for the session in the documentary was "late 2022".
Detroit Stories was released in February 2021.

It really does seem that the release of this special was to be timed with some sort of more formal “reunion” announcement, whether it is a new, full album with the original group or some live dates. I agree with Scotty - Dennis replies much quicker normally and I keep checking for his response to the question. Of course, he merely could be on a vacation and not near a computer.

I would have liked to have seen this, it seems to have focused more of Alice as the group, rather than the person - and that's not usually seen these days.

I think these TV productions are very slow from idea to air, so I can't imagine this was timed intentionally for a reveal of further work - can't rule out it may have happened organically however, they've been working closely on studio releases for a good few years now...

I think you have your answer. If it were his to divulge, he'd say so.
