BSB 50th anniversary 2cd / 3 lp out in March

Post by mestreech » Sat Jan 20, 2024 4:54 pm

Hi,

I got this info from Steven Dauwe (Belgium superfan).

Coming out on 8 march on 2 cds and 3 LPs rhino Billion Dollar Babies(50th Anniversary)
Deluxe Edition

There was no more info so we have to wait. I hope it's NOT the old version.
The Killer and School's out deluxe sets surprised me so maybe this one also.

Id expect 2LPs are the album

So that leaves 1LP probably 6 to 8 tracks long, what could that be?

Or am i way off? i did not get the recent releases of killer or schools out. i am just assuming the usual trend of vinyl being 3 to 4 songs per side these days.

I suppose they could do BDB on 3 sides, but my OCD would hate if side D flipped to extras :rotfl:

I find it difficult to imagine buying this album yet again. The recent Quadio Blu-Ray is my go-to for this album. Yes, there are different edits on certain songs, but dang it sounds good. I’ll be satisfied to simply read about this release.

I have the 2001 BDB DE as well as the DVD Audio release. I'll have to wait until the bonus material on this upcoming release is confirmed before I can decide whether it's worth it for me to buy. I still need to buy the Killer and SO DE CDs.

You’re way off! Unless they were doing it as a 45rpm there would be no reason to split it into 2 Lps. I hope they’ve come up with something different from the 2001 release as the live stuff there has been issued separately on vinyl and there’s nothing new for the CD. What would be nice is a stereo fold of the quad mix. A different contemporary live show would be cool and some unreleased demos or alternates if they have them. I doubt we’ll hear the infamous superstar jam if they chose to leave “Schools Back In” off the Schools Out set.

I have those also. The DVD Audio, if you can find it, is pricey. But, the sound is awesome! I heard things I never heard before on the recording. Acura cars from 2004 to 2014 had CD players that could accommodate those.

Though I haven't played it in quite some time (my DVD Video player no longer works which is the only thing I had which was compatible with my BDB DVD-A disc) I recall the sound quality being as you describe it and I also recall hearing things I never heard before on it. That's interesting that those cars had CD players that were compatible with DVD-A discs within that time frame.

I can't even guess how many times I've bought BDB over the years in different formats. At present still have the 2001 DE, BDB live album and the Rocktober green vinyl album. Still would be interested in checking this out. Also it's curious the release date for this is the same day the Theatre of Death lp set is due to be released.

Good, the amount of albums i have with 3 songs per side is ridiculous and it ruins the listening experience imo having change sides so often

yep - maybe they needed the extra year to dig up a new multi-track live show that's not the Houston gig, and then they tracked down a whole new batch of studio outtakes and demos - you know so they properly cater to the hardcore and faithful.

I liked the School's Out and Killer re-issues (although I would have preferred a SO live show over the reissued Sol Y Mar gig) so I'm interested and cautiously optimistic that this will be a worthwhile release.

I totally get what you mean. I understand it when an album wouldn’t comfortably fit on a single Lp but when you have things like Frank Ferdinand’s Tonight which is a 42 minute album split over 2 lps at 33rpm it doesn’t make for a relaxing listening experience.

Here is the link to the product page. At that price, this had better be a truly outstanding document. Maybe I'll regret my choice, but I'm still suffering from sticker shock.

I'm not interested in the vinyl edition but if the CD has out takes/different versions of stuff (like killer and Schools Out) then i am 100% buying it day one. im not fussed by the live stuff from the OG band as its not different enough to really excite me. (i prefer alice live from 1980 onwards where there is variety in the styles and performances)
I also will probably buy it so that we may one day get special editions of stuff that excites me (1980 - 2000)

It’s on Amazon Uk now (although no price as yet) with a picture of the set. From what I can see by straining my eyes at the open booklet it appears to have I love the dead followed by Hello Hooray, BDB, Elected, I’m Eighteen and Raped and Freezing. So I’m guessing a live show at least. I really hope it just isn’t the 2001 set with a rehashed booklet.

I was happy with the School Outs/Killer releases last year, so I'll definitely keep an eye open for reviews on this edition, if they are positive, I'd give it a go, but yeah, I have many copies of Billion, so it would have to be an upgrade.

What I really want is for Love it to Death to receive the Deluxe treatment, in line with what we saw with School & Killer. All I have of that is the vinyl release from the 70s, and the regular CD from... whenever.

Looks like the track listing here https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CS48LTYD/ ... B0CS48LTYD

Looks like a full live show (probably the one already released) plus the 3 additional songs on the 2001 2CD release plus single versions
