Your go to Live DVD

Post by bigbradwolf » Thu Sep 23, 2021 12:26 am

As the Alice tour kicks off after lockdown, I'm curious to see which DVD/show does everyone go to or turned to, to get their Alice fix.

Mine are:
1st: Trashes the World
2nd: Live in Montreux
3rd: Theatre of Death

On a completely unrelated topic in Trashes the World, any ideas on the theme of the t-shirt that Alice wears in Welcome to my Nightmare? I've just noticed he wears the same one in the video for "I Got a Line on You".

Theatre is AMAZING setlist wise and show too. Brutally Live too. The best are there

Hopefully the Castle setting doesn't go to waste now and it gets recorded

I didn't answer the initial question...

1. Trashes The World
2. Brutally Live
3. Theatre Of Death
4. Good To See You Again
5. WTMN

Number one with a bullet is
1) The nightmare Returns
2) Trashes the world
3) Live in paris
For me, the best band ever was the 80s kane roberts era. Such energy and passion. Love it. The crowd are amazing, the stage is brilliant and the band(and alice) are on fire.

Trashes the world is a close 2nd and an excellent live show.
Live in paris is a great set with nita being superb, my only real complaint is that i wish it was recorded on the tour after! roses on white lace live is a beast!

Haven't watched a live DVD in a fair while, so the more recent ones haven't had much screen time from me. I got a lot of mileage out of Brutally Live and Trashes the World back in the day though (especially Brutally Live).

I was at the brutally live show in London so i have a soft spot for it, but its not great. I think it has possibly the worst version of i'm eighteen i have ever heard by alice! some bright spots but partly due to the rubbish (seated) crowd and partly some choices on song structures etc i dont feel it works as well as nightmare returns, trashes or live in paris.

I hate the montreux show, rubbish set and lifeless renditions of the songs really doesnt gel for me (and another terrible crowd)

Theatre of death is another show i was at and is cool from that perspective but the two guitarists do not compliment each other very well and the audio mix is very poor. Cool show and setlist - again some great spots but i really do feel that he lacked in guitarists until they got a truly great talent in the band again (orianthi was good talent but rubbish on stage, nita is excellent on stage and a great player!)

Wacken is pretty good and i like to revist a fair bit, the crowd are good and the playing is good from orianthi but her lack of presence really hurts it.
great version of he's back though!!!

Good to see you again is solid (obviously the show, not the god awful "skits") and its cool to see a more unhinged alice but it was never my fave era.

Welcome to my nightmare is again good but it is a bit to broadway for my tastes, the band do let rip sometimes and like that but far too much of it is quite tame. crowd are excellent tho!

I'm still gutted about no officially filmed version of ol black eyes, that show absolutely ripped!!!!! (even with dodgy seated crowds in many places hahaha) great setlist, great playing, great energy and alice was fantastic and lets be honest looked fantastic for 73 or whatever age he is.

I can more easily give the one I never watch: Trashes the World. That one does nothing for me at all.

5. 1986: "The Nightmare Returns" - My first time seeing Alice. I had thought that I would never see him, and then he came back with this. The two live shows that I saw were pure excitement. However, this is a disappointing video. Even by 1986 standards, the cameras that they used were not so great. They were terrible in low light, and certain portions of this video look bad. Also, they did not include the dramatic opening piece, which I consider one of the best show openers I've ever seen. (The house lights went out. The crowd cheered. Lightning flashed on the wrecked carnival. Thunder pounded, and carousel music could be heard wheezing in the storm. It built for a minute or two before the carousel music wound down, and the opening notes came from the guitar. Alice sang the opening bars, but he could not be seen. Suddenly, he kicked the cage bars out from under the drum riser, and Alice effin' Cooper exploded onto the stage. The crowd roared for him. The music came out loud, strong, and menacing. That was what it was like.)
4. 2001: "Brutally Live" - Such a powerful concert, and another great opener. This video captures everything nicely. You even get to see Si in a couple of shots...!
3. 1975: "The Nightmare" TV Special - When this was broadcast, it was banned in our TV market. That made me want to see it even more. I was an adult before that finally happened.
2. 1990: "Prime Cuts - The Alice Cooper Story (US Version)" - I devoured this videotape when it was new. It was my first real look at the band, and it was very revealing. I finally got to see and hear some of the historic performances that I'd only been able to read about.
1. 1973: "Good To See You Again, Alice Cooper" (Concert only) - "Prime Cuts" was my first real look at the live BDB show. I'd also seen some of the clips on the Midnight Special. This DVD is essential to the history of Alice Cooper.
Move aside, mere drop of water - let the ocean pass.

Nightmare returns (on VHS) was the first I saw and therefore remains special .
Brutally Live for bringing Pick up the bones, Caught in a dream
Wacken for still being relevant after all these years...
you really wouldn't understand..

1. Trashes the world straight off the bat, great 'rock' versions of the songs, and energetic.
2. Montruex, i must like the scaled down shows.
3. Brutally Live (Especially the second half - with caught in a dream and its hot tonight, Roxie Rules on that show!! (and in general)
4. Nightmare returns..
then the rest.
