I get the feeling he calls it the “blackout years” and says “he doesn’t remember recording those albums” etc, as a excuse to not have to talk about it in detail. Which I totally understand and respect. It’s probably too painful for him to revisit

Thanks, I’m sure I’ve heard this before but had forgotten a good bit. Prompted me to go back and listen to some of Wagner’s own work. Love the guitar on his own version of Might As Well Be On Mars.

No way to really tell if he’s fully sober or not. My hunch is that he probably had been to rehab between Dada being completed and these Grammys. Seems to be about the same weight and have same haircut as the few pics from recording Dada. I believe he was estranged from Sheryl when this was filmed, and I don’t see a wedding band, but the film isn’t crystal clear. He seems a little melancholy, but could be my imagination.
