I was looking for some photos of that era, and the only one I can find is the black and white photo of him pointing at the camera. I'm aware that Alice was at his lowest in his life, but I've always thought that Dada is his best solo album.

Dada is Alice's masterpiece and best sounding album. It's great to see that it was recorded and produced in a shack! My I've of the album just got greater after seeing these photos.

I remember seeing that one for the first time and being shocked at how thin he was, again I'm not sure if it's from the dada era but still very frightening.

Dada came out Sept 1983, so it was recorded earlier that year. Wonder if by the time this photo was taken, he’d already done the rehab thing? I don’t think he looks bad and has some weight on him. Not sure of the 1983 timeline, but if Sheryl supposedly filed for divorce in November 1983, then maybe not all was well here.

Yeah, there are a lot of contradictions in the timeline around this period on here. I believe Alice might have gotten sober October/November of that year. There's a lot of debate, but Alice was back to drinking heavily so that might explain the weight gain. But it is known that by the beginning of 84 he was sober for good, maybe we'll never know all the gritty details, but let's be honest do we really want to know? I can't see Alice getting sober by August, because why would Sheryl leave and then file for divorce if he's sober? But all that to one side, we're just glad Alice beat his demons for good by 84.

That looks like to be a Flush The Fashion pass laminate on the guy's shirt, so would be closer to 1980 I think.

Well Bernie Taupin was apparently the one who introduced Alice to coke, and he started drinking heavily again around the special forces era.

I think it's a fascinating period of Alice's career which i'd like to hear more about.

You won't hear much about it from AC himself. That's why it's called the "Blackout Years"
All you will get is 2nd & 3rd hand info. Hopefully, from someone who was sober.
