How about this line from the same song:

Landscape's alive and it's moving my feet, all I need is a holocaust to make my day complete.

This dream's a novel that I don't dare complete
No happy endings read
I think the hero's dead

she asked me why the singers name was Alice
I said listen baby, you really wouldn't understand...

and that's what I often had to say, like the other thread from being an fan in '73, when friends asked me how on earth I could be a fan of....( several descriptions could follow here :alice: ) : you really wouldn't understand !

On a few songs on the Trash he does this bit at the end of most songs that goes over the outro chorus lyrics that is not documented in the lyric sheets...like in spark of the dark I am sure it is "You stupid little liar, baby you can set my match on fire"....I always thought those parts where pretty cool.

I think the lyrics to My God are well written. I've also always liked Nothing's Free as well, particularly these lines:

Sign upon the dotted line
I'll be yours and you'll be mine
Nothing's free
Eventually

Sign upon the bloody line
A drop of yours, a drop of mine
Nothing's free
Eternally

I saw on Facebook yesterday that someone suggested the lyrics from Pain, and I have to agree.

And I'm the loudest one laughing at the saddest wake

I'm the salt in the sweat on the cuts of the slaves
I was the wound in the side while Jesus prayed
I was the filthiest word at the vandalized grave
Time is getting closer

Every line in that song is brilliant. My personal favorite is:

Im the lines on the face of the tramp at the bar. Im the reds by the bed of the suicide star

Bob Dylan was right about Alice.

Which makes one wonder how the same person could write "Spark In The Dark"

But then again McCartney wrote "Eleanor Rigby" and then unleashed the yearly plague on the world of "Wonderful Christmas Time".

That was me having just synched the audio of the studio version to the Paris TV Special performance of the song.

Whether it’s his greatest lyric i don’t know, but a classic Alice lyric and song for sure, proving he still wrote great stuff in the 1980s, despite some of his detractors who just refer to his heath issues during that period.
