Re: "Alice Cooper's Anonymous" early 80's fanzine
I understand fully what Andy means in terms of the information in the fanzine. In my original post I tried to give a flavour of the context. We have become so used to a wealth of information via the internet but back then it was unique to have so much on Alice in print.
Part of the context of the time for me was I used to be infuriated when the NME or Sounds would devote acres of column inches about some now long forgotten album by some equally forgettable band as if they were the saviours of rock n roll while dismissing "Flush the Fashion" or "Special Forces" in a couple of tawdry lines.

Neither of those exist any more (the former does but in a different form), so we can easily tell who has the longevity.

Yep. In fact, some of the earliest fanzines were done on stone tablets.A_MichaelUK wrote:>If Andy gives his permission, I can put it back up for people to see.
Let me think about it. The thing is, a lot of the information in them is now easy to find elsewhere and also (and not that I'm comparing the fanzine with these) but since then, you've had "Prime Cuts", the incredible essay written by Jeffrey Morgan for the box - set, as well as "Golf Monster".
> and, to be honest, the original pics in the photocopied mags left something to be desired.
Exactly (if you mean the quality of the reproduction). There may be some here who may find this difficult to understand, but once, a long time ago, there were no such things as computers, word - processing, digital images, scanning and all the other things we now all take for granted.

Andy,
I think I bought the first few, 3 or 4 I think and really enjoyed them. Was it you who had an issue with your local photocopier/printer shop who refused to print them at one stage?
How many did you do in the end, I remember looking forward to the 'next' one but then didn't see anymore.
Great job, thanks for your efforts

I'm more interested in reading them just to get a sense of what they were like... I kinda figured all the info that was available at that time has been regurgitated elsewhere in the ensuing years.A_MichaelUK wrote: Let me think about it. On another note, don't you think in a way these are a part of AC history and should be preserved in some fashion? I can't think of a better place to do so than here... with your blessings of course.

That's very humbling and I'm never humble.

Yes - you have a great memory. Shep Gordon loved that story.
>How many did you do in the end, I remember looking forward to the 'next' one but then didn't see anymore.
I think there were ten, but I'm not sure.

You're much too generous.

Did Brian ever include the fanzines in the Alice Cooper Archives?

No, I don't! That's very flattering, though? Are you after something?

not sure what you mean by 'include.' but, the archives where just a massive collection of alice cooper.... junk in storage rooms. i'm sure brian threw everything alice related in there, including fan made stuff.

Hopefully, not.
For those interested in trivia, one copy that I sent which was given to Alice ended up with Alice's father, who gave it to Brian - and over twenty - five years later, here we are.

I wish I had read these fanzines..as a sidenote Alice coverage was terrible in the early 80s..I lived in Norwich in early 80s and there was a time when HMV did not even have a titled area for Alice albums..I know its hard to believe..but no Alice in Norwich! Well done for keeping the flame alive Andy.

Yes - that's what Robbie said.

In those days, Alice wasn't a priority for Warner Brothers, as we know.

Yes. The first one was in 1996, I think. In fact, there was a fanzine in The Netherlands (I think) which started just before mine as well as one in The Netherlands that started afterwards and there was one from Sweden as well. I vaguely remember there being one from Japan, but I'm not sure. There was a 'one - off' fanzine from Los Angeles, in 1989 as well.

"Recoop" was spot on for congratulating Andy for keeeping the "flame alive". I don't know Andy but he is clearly a very modest guy and the fact that we are discussin the fanzine now- twenty five years later- says something.
I agree with others on this thread who suggest these deserve to be archived. They are part of the story of Alice Cooper in terms of Alice's career and the fan's perception and loyalty to him during this period- which incidentally, and I know I am not alone in believing this, produced some truly memorable, interesting and unique Alice songs.

Re: "Alice Cooper's Anonymous" early 80's fanzine
Other members have raised an interest in seeing these fanzines over the years (not just this thread alone) and it sure would be something to see it from an early 80s point of view, having no idea of what still was in store for Alice and the fans.A_MichaelUK wrote:The thing is, a lot of the information in them is now easy to find elsewhere and also (and not that I'm comparing the fanzine with these) but since then, you've had "Prime Cuts", the incredible essay written by Jeffrey Morgan for the box - set, as well as "Golf Monster".
If I may put forward a slice of personal colostomy...
