A Fighting Band?

Post by livinluvin72 » Sun Oct 24, 2021 6:54 pm

Being the long-haired freaks you guys were back in the day and the threats you received as a result from macho dudes who didn’t appreciate the look…
did you guys ever have to fight you’re way out of a situation or did you always manage to escape or out wit your
tormenters before it came to blows?

Thanks

Vince and I weren't fighters but the rest of our band/gang were.
Once in the parking lot of the VIP in Phoenix, a cowboy said, are you a boy or a girl and he would up flat on his back with John Tatum glaring down at him.
Glen was always friendly but if anyone gave him any trouble, he was quick to get scrappy. Neal had that same Ohio retaliation in him, plus he was tall.
Michael wasn't as much of a fighter but he was built like a bull.
We always stuck close together and managed to survive quite a few scrapes.

hi Dennis
I read about a concert in Toledo that you had to stop because of the violent attitude of the public . ( a part of the MOL tour ) throwing full beer cans and even exploding things on stage...
at that time you guys were already famous.
Was the ACG the only band receiving such "treatment" or was it common practice in those days ?
(never understood what fun it is to embarrass the group you want to see/hear and your fellow fans... )
you really wouldn't understand..

Only a small percentage of the were violent. But M-80's are serious explosives to be dodging while you're trying to perform. Neal got a dart in his back at another concert. Glen was hit by a thrown hammer. When you're on stage, you're an easy target. But most of our scrapes were at truck stops and convenience stores. It was our image.
