A Shakespeare Cabaret, August 1973

Post by VinceRaven » Wed Aug 25, 2021 9:02 am

Hey Dennis,

I've seen a few mentions of this Hollywood Bowl event lately, since the anniversary of it was a few days ago.

Was there any debate over Alice doing this solo, especially as he was performing one of the band's songs?

Did he perform it with other musicians or was it a backing tape?

Thanks

For anyone who wants to know more about the event, I have a page devoted to this event on my Planet of the Apes Archive with quite a few photos and newspaper clippings. Unfortunately, I do not have the answers to the questions asked.

At that point, Alice was being pulled away to do lots of stuff that the rest of us only heard about after it happened. I heard that he sang along to a backing tape but I don't know for sure. It had become obvious to Michael, Neal, Glen, and I that Alice was being presented as a solo entertainer and using the band's music and name.
