I have to ask why was Michael Bruce airbrushed from the cover?
I was told that they wanted the cover to have a cleaner look.
Is there a photo available w/Michael on stage also?
Yes, the same photo with MB is online.

Thanks Dennis,
I don't see why taking Michael out of the photo gave it a "cleaner" look.
Just another singer-centric knee jerk executive decision. ::((:
Since the film was featuring a Concert by the ACG &
included the band in other settings, shouldn't a photo of the
whole band onstage been more of a prerequisite?

I agree and voiced my disapproval at that time.

I thought I knew this video as I bought it on vhs in the 80’s. I bought it via an ad in Kerrang magazine. I’ve now seen on here that this is referred to as a bootleg. There are no skits between the songs, except the Lady Is A Tramp section at the beginning. Instead it had clips from old films and clips from press conferences - all with German subtitles! I found it annoying, but I became quite skilled at fast-forwarding through those parts.
Last night I watched the version with the skits and found it even more annoying than the version I watched in the 80’s!
The video was the only time I’d seen Alice and the band other than photos. I loved it, especially the crazy bassist and his high-kicks!!

It’s hard to fathom why anyone would think that interrupting the flow of the concert would actually be popular. Did the band and management have so little faith in the show itself?

Those decisions were made without the band, which was a departure from how we had always worked.
The extra schtick was likely added for running time.

Alice’s longtime assistant, Brian Renfield Nelson, R.I.P. said the film crew used 16 mm cameras and when they converted it to 35 mm for theatrical release it made the film dark.
This still doesn’t explain why the film crew would have you guys shut off the world class stage lighting except for the spot lights on Alice.
Was Shep not there the 2 nights in Texas when the B$B show was being filmed?
Was Dave Libert on that tour?
Didn't they question why all the lights were shut off which was not only bad for the audience on those nights who didn't get to see the real thing plus it came out horribly on film.
Did they just defer to the film crew? "We'll the film crew are the experts. Let's not try and tell them how to run their business."
It seems like there should have been a test run to see how it came out.
Saying that, it's easy to be a Monday morning quarterback. I know Shep had to deal with a lot. Everything was moving so fast. Shep did a lot to get the band to the top. I know he made mistakes, a big one was losing the publishing to Herb Cohen after Shep did all the work of getting Jack Richardson and Bob Ezrin to produce you guys but he was on the job learning.
When WTMN came out he finally figured out how to get a good concert film, so he got better.

At that time, I found it very difficult to believe that a film crew would insist on having less light on the stage, especially when it was so amazingly innovative. And I would think that a professional film crew would know that it would be even darker in conversion. It's a sad shame that the Billion Dollar Babies Tour lighting was never documented.

It really is. I also find it maddening that I can't see what the Billion Dollar Babies band stageshow looked like as that sounds amazing.

During the intro to My Stars on the GTSYAAC DVD, there is a geometric light display on the stage. Was that live or was that effect added to the film?

I would have to watch it again. I doubt that it was added to the film. I think "My Stars" and "School's Out" had some of our lighting.

So its not a problem with the conversion/negatives , they literally just didnt use the lights?
Its a shame as if it was the negative then at least they could rescan it in 4k with HDR and it might show some improvment.

We filmed two shows in Texas. The first night was a complete surprise to the band when we started the show and most of the stage was dark. I walked off stage upset about it. Then the same thing happened on the second night. Every other show on the tour, except a couple of nights when our trucks got stranded in snow storms, the lighting was spectacular.

A crying shame no other shows were filmed to get a good idea of the group firing on all cylinders. a real shame.
