The Cracking Low Bass Note

I first heard I Love The Dead in 1974. There's the opening slide down on bass guitar which resolves in a solid note (Low 'E'?) which has a cracking sound as if the speaker is broken (or maybe the string plucked a little hard).

For whatever reason, I think it helps set the mood of the song. Was there any thought of punching in another, smoother, take of that note? Personally, I'm glad it was left as is. Thanks for your time and thoughtful replies to all of these great questions.

You're right, it was plucked too hard. I don't recall for sure, but an educated guess says Bob Ezrin said it was okay and didn't want me to fix it.
