Re: Crazy Little Child

Crazy Little Child was inspired by Michael's lyrics. I'm not sure why we decided to give it a New Orleans jazz feel. You are right about it being out of our style. Personally, I thought it was too typically standard for us, however I liked the idea of doing something unexpected, and like everything ...

Re: Halo Live

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rKw2nfGHec Hi Dennis, I just came across this video of you and a tribute band playing HOF in someones living room as it looks. Great to see a close-up of you playing the bass that way !! Can you tell something about this ? How did they manage to get you to play this...

Re: Return Of The Spiders

From all of the snippets of performances, as you can see, a lot happened that day.
Through decades, whenever I've played in Canada, people come up to me and say things like, My friend's uncle was at that show.

Re: Halo Live

Michael starts the song then Glen joins in and layers an ascending riff. Yes, Glen specialized in feedback while Michael favored a cleaner tone that cut through, which is true for most every song we did. They both play the riff following "She'd rather shoot me in my tracks" but Glen does the over-ha...

Re: Love it to Death Question

Thanks for the reply and a pretty darn quick one at that. So if LITD wasn’t successful you were pretty sure WB would give you another chance ? I don’t think that luxury exists in the record business anymore. And that’s a shame because bands need time to develop. But I’m not sure in the case of rock...

Re: Love it to Death Question

I talk about this i my book. Pretties For You was a low budget rush job and Easy Action was recorded before we had enough songs written and with no rehearsal space. Love It To Death had several weeks of preparation and a decent amount of studio time so we did feel more confident going into the studi...

Re: band logo

On Pretties For You, we had no say. We used the Doors logo font for Easy Action. Love it To Death was handwritten to look more personal from Alice the character. For the following album, I wrote the name to look like a ransom note from a Killer. Then it was carved into a school desk. Then it was sta...

Re: Song Writing Credits And Percentages

Despite Glen not participating at all on MOL he gets songwriting credits. Was it a unanimous decision to do this or where there any heated arguments?. I'm assuming it was done out of loyalty and an attempt to get Glen involved again. [/quote] Even though, our song writing credits weren't perfect, we...

Re: Song Writing Credits And Percentages

It doesn’t work like that, as the publisher gets 50%. On School’s Out and I’m Eighteen each band member gets 10% of the performing share of royalties (radio play etc..) with 2 publishers taking the other 50% (BMG 33.34% and Universal/MCA Music 16.66%). As for mechanical royalties (record sales) the ...

Re: Song Writing Credits And Percentages

That's a fascinating break down Dennis, It seems like there wasn't quite the animosity in the group (regarding song writing credits) like there was in other groups. Its weird how the songs are split, billion dollar babies (to my memory) doesn't have Neal Smith credited on it, but to me, that song l...

Re: Song Writing Credits And Percentages

Michael was already focused on song writing when we met him. He urged Vince and I to write. So we wrote "Don't Blow Your Mind" which went to #11 on AM radio in Tucson, Arizona, meanwhile, on the sly, Michael was writing and recording his own songs for his other bands. He wrote songs in the tradition...

Cindy found the Hollywood house. The band Rhinoceros frequented the Inside Outside boutique where Cindy worked. They mentioned they were moving out of L.A. so Cindy got the contact information for their landlord, who was John Phillip Law who played the blind angel Pygar in the 1968 film "Barbarella"...

Re: Today “Toodie” Mueller

It's one of the better songs on the album as it's short and doesn't outstay its welcome. I guess I have I have been singing the lyrics wrong for 50 years. Always thought it was " Happy slappin tappin patio " not Paddy-Oh! I'm leaning toward patio so I dug out some of the original lyrics. I didn't f...

Re: B$B quad blu ray

I hadn't heard anything about the release until Steve Gaddis, Director of Live From The Astroturf, told me. I have yet to get a copy so I can't comment on the varied versions. They likely wanted to give people something they didn't already have.
I'll follow up when I hear it.

It was our obsession with doing a play on words, which is evident throughout the Pretties For You album.

Re: "SO" and "Killer" Expanded editions

I'm scared to ask... Did you get your albums yet? Yes, my copies finally arrived. That news got a sigh of relief from Toby Mamis, who has always been very accommodating. Opening the box and looking at the vinyl packaging gave me that old time feeling of excitement. There's lots of reading involved....

Re: Album Closer

As I've said many times, the group decided on most every detail of our music, image, and shows. We would crank the volume on the final mixes through the studio speakers and try everybody's ideas until we all agreed whaat was the best song order for each side of the album. I can't think of a closer t...

Re: Glen on My Stars

I think of the song the same way Alice does, with Glen's playing prominent. That's how the song was created, with Michael on bass, and then on keyboards with Glen loud and clear. Unfortunately, his part is buried in both studio and live mixes, although there must be an early live recording out there...
