Re: Albums As Works of Art

A side note about this: when I made the switch to CDs back in the '80s, I discovered after a while that I no longer knew the names of all of the songs on most albums. I used to know every title from every album because I spent hours and hours looking at the album cover, studying the album cover, me...

Re: Respect for the Sleepers

Hey Dennis, The lyrics for this Muscle of Love demo dwell on a theme that Alice would return to regularly as the years went on. Was there ever any possibility that the song wild have made the album with this kind of lyric or was it always a work-in-progress looking for a more satisfying direction? ...

Re: Albums As Works of Art

Pretties For You We wanted Salvador Dali's Geopoliticus Child Watching The Birth of The New Man for the cover but Zappa had just bought Beardsley's Strawberry Cake and I think he might have wanted to get a tax write off. The photo on the back cover wasn't as good as the shot we had chosen from that ...

Re: Albums As Works of Art

The AC Group’s albums from Pretties for You to Greatest Hits were all incredible works of art; alas, never to return in the digital age. I used to look at the albums while listening to the music. There was always a lot to see and in the albums you can tell it was a BAND. In an interview, you descri...

Re: Elected mix

Doesn't the single mix have the vocals centered? I thought that was what we heard on Greatest Hits. Also, on Life & Crimes - was that mixed mono? (I think that the School's Out single was mixed in mono.) Just Wondr'ring Aloud. On the single mix of Elected on The Life & Crimes... the vocals do sound...

Re: Elected mix

Hi Dennis, I always wondered, why did you guys decide to mix the vocals on "Elected" in the left channel only. In fact, I noticed a lot of different separation between different instruments in both channels. I'm sure that was Bob Ezrin's decision and he likely thought it helped the lead vocals cut ...

Dennis, I read what you said about the Hollywood Bowl show in your book. If you'd like to comment on this excellent version of Halo of Flies... Thanks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cd8KpOcJ5qw Obviously, it was a landmark night for us, showing Hollywood that we had honed our craft and finally cre...

Re: Your bass playing on forthcoming single by UK act TBelly

What is the song and where can we hear it Dennis? How do you feel about recording parts separately? I'm guessing the Slade he is in must be Dave Hill's after Don got fired. "I Never Want to See Me Again" will be out on July 16th. tbelly.bandcamp.com Even though, I prefer to watch the drummer when r...

Re: Your bass playing on forthcoming single by UK act TBelly

How did that come about Dennis? The clip i’ve heard sounds great. I've yet to meet Russell Keefe in person but our mutual friends, Andy and Anna, told me that Russell would like to have me play bass on one of his songs. Anna is Ron Wood's guitar tech and she was my bass tech at the Christmas Puddin...

Re: All The Girls Love Alice

That was sweet! It worked. Sorry that we had to scroll through the credits while the Band & Vocalists were jamming! David Letterman brought Darlene Love back every year for Christmas. I tend to think Michael, Neal, Glen, and I often get shortchanged on our contributions to what we created. B...

Re: Hard Hearted Alice

Michael brought the song in and we were all very careful about capturing the forlorn feel of the intro and first verse, which seemed to reflect how we were all feeling at that time. I got gutsy on the second verse with the bass line. And when the song did kick in for Bob Dolan's organ break and the...

Re: All The Girls Love Alice

Did Elton write those lyrics or did Bernie? Not long after that, Bernie would be working with Alice. I don't know if the lyric was referring to Alice, as in Alice Cooper, but I'm hard pressed to think of any other Alice. Backstage at the Hollywood Bowl, following our extravaganza performance, Elton ...

Re: Battle Axe

Thank you for your responses Dennis. I wish there was a like button on the forum. Would I be correct in saying that Mike and Neal's solo albums were self funded? Also I think Mike had a studio in Lake Tahoe. Did you ever visit it? When Battle Axe was conceived and recorded where were the band membe...

Re: Battle Axe

I have a question regarding Alice taking the name and getting a record contract without the others. Was this the one-off with Atlantic for "Welcome To My Nightmare" or did he renegotiate the WB contract also without the rest of the band? The one-off with Atlantic sullied relations with Alice and Sh...

Re: Original Group Live Album

I agree that a live album might have benefited the group at that time. But it would have conflicted with a solo release.

Re: Battle Axe

I bought the complete Battle Axe 3cd years ago, the first and only time I saw it in "my" cdshop. At first I was not convinced this could have been an ACG cd, but listening to it again several times now ,it really has good songs ! And the second cd with the demo's is really good ! It was said this w...

Re: Billion Dollar Bass

The airlines used to take special care of instruments, but in recent years, even heavy duty travel cases often get damaged. My bass was lost twice, and both times, I'm the one that found it, not the airline. That's why I asked Fender to replicate the B$Bass for touring. Thanks to Master Craftsman Pa...
