Re: Looney tune fuzz

It's hard to say because Glen and Michael were always trying out new pedals in the studio but it could be Glen's FuzzFace.
The other guitar is going through a Leslie cabinet.

I always thought the “boneyard” segment of the live arrangement of “is it my body” sounded like a prototype for the riff too
That never struck me but I can hear the similarity - again it's that shuffle swing feel.

Re: "Fields Of Regret" And "School's Out"

Others have pointed this out over the years. It does sound like Glen played my bass lick on guitar with a bit of a shuffle feel but, even though the band occasionally revisited ideas, this similarity wasn't conscious.

Re: Another "Halo Of Flies" question

My personal belief is that songs can be performed live without the extra instruments. "Under My Wheels" has always been fine without it. "Luney Tune" would have been fine as well. Some songs like "Ballad of Dwight Fry" had the best of both worlds thanks to Michael switching from keys to guitar durin...

Re: Another "Halo Of Flies" question

I thought the track for "Under My Wheels" sounded strong on its own and I was against adding horns. Since the song was chosen as a single, and radio stations were playing songs by other groups that had added horns (The Doors, The Stones), it likely helped get airplay. The horns soon won me over.

Re: Another "Halo Of Flies" question

On the subject of the Moog, the late Brian Nelson suggested that the horn section on the last part of "Under My Wheels" was a Moog as well. Does this sound accurate? I was shocked at that because it really does sound like a horns section! I'm pretty sure it was real horns but I wasn't at that parti...

It seemed like we were appreciated more outside of the US.

It's a vivid memory. I was walking outside going from one class to another at Cortez High School. Other kids were there and everyone was in shock.

Some bands like Arcade Fire, Sigur Ros, Enya, U2, and Florence and The Machine are less effected, or even enhanced by rooms with boomy acoustics.

“Every pill went directly into their mouth no questions asked”. Everyone seems to be aware of the excesses in the industry especially during those days. It seemed expected. My question is was there anyone in your sphere that raised a voice of caution or flat out said let’s not be stupid here becaus...

Re: 27 Club

The loss of those three, plus Brian Jones 3.7.69 shocked and deeply saddened the world. It was a wake up call that the positive vibes of the Free Love era had been darkened by how many young people were dying from various things that seemed to be related to that life style. Jimi and Jim hit us the h...

Re: Another "Halo Of Flies" question

One thing that I have to remind myself of is that although many of us these days think of the equipment you used as vintage and classic, to you guys at the time it was the vanguard of technology. From listening to Killer I’m guessing that you used the Moog to process some of Glen and Michael’s guit...

Re: Another "Halo Of Flies" question

Thanks for getting your buddy to look back to the original albums. The re-issues of Killer and School's Out sound great, especially the bass. As for the Moog, I wrote about it but I'm not sure that it made the final edit in my book. The Moog arrived at the studio, we opened the box, and I looked at ...

Re: Moving out of the Cooper Mansion!

It was 1974 so I'm not clear on who moved out first but when Alice got an apartment in New York City, he wasn't around as much as the rest of us. We pretty much moved out of the estate at the same time. I missed the camaraderie of the band and the beauty of the house but I didn't miss having a home ...

After that photo session, the other guys left and Cindy and I hung out with Avedon who showed us a bunch of unseen photos he had taken of Marilyn Monroe dressed up as other classic film stars. We later saw some of them in Life magazine.

Re: Halo Live

As for the scream, I'm not sure what you're calling the solo and which version of the song - studio or live, but generally the band would yell out to each other on stage but if it was a high scream, it was me. If you're talking about a live version, it could have been someone in the crowd. AC Fan L...

Re: Dapper Dudes

When photographer icon Richard Avedon has an idea, you say yes and have fun with it. The concept was for the Billion Dollar Babies image. We liked the contrast of Alice Cooper looking like shock rockers that got wealthy. Avedon liked the contrast of Alice Cooper looking like Wall Street business men...

Re: Question about Fireball, and your birthplace

I touch on this in my book. I actually lived in Creswell, Oregon but in 1946, the nearest hospital was in Cottage Grove. Our family moved to Phoenix, Arizona when I was 5 years old but we visited my grandfather's farm in Creswell every year, including the summer of 1964 when I worked on grandpa's fa...
