Alice's Voice

Just seen footage of Liam Gallacher wandering off stage at a festival gig moaning that he'd lost his voice/ got a sore throat. For me, that's a result....but it did get me thinking about the number of singers who have to cut short gigs and tours because of voice "problems". How come Alice is able, y...

Re: Bob Ezrin-Past, Present And Future

There have been a number of references in this, and other threads, to budgetary issues/ constraints in the making of Alice's albums. I'm not taking a position here, because I simply don't know- but is it really possible that this album would have been demonstrably "better" if those involved had spen...

Re: Promotion/Comments By Eddie Trunk

I think mr.barlow makes some excellent points re the use of mr.ezrin. I would imagine that if I had presented Alice with my wish list of producer and players, he would (very politely) have told me to take a hike. So I'd be left with no new album at all. As it is I get a bunch of great songs which, c...

Re: When will there be a Paranormal album review

I'd like to pose another question or two before the album sales discussion goes cold? If Trash was Alice's biggest selling album, and everyone from Forbes to the BBC has been confidently asserting for many years that his career sales are over 50 million, how has that been achieved? The stats we've s...

Re: New album update

Love it! Is there a hint of Bob produced Pink Floyd's Another Brick In The Wall Part One just before Alice's voice kicks in? For some reason I also thought of This Maniac's In Love With You first time I listened- although I hope no-one on the forum agrees as Trash seems such a hated album here! Also...

Re: Where are the Promotions people?

From Pitkin 88: "Be careful what you wish for regarding promoting it, there was a lot of stuff surrounding ACAS and that was dead on arrival". I think a number of board members might have been grateful for the advance promotion on ACAS. I remember getting pretty excited in the months leading to rele...

Re: Where are the Promotions people?

I still have sympathy for dadascot and Dannorama. I absolutely understand the business logic of all of Si and Andy's points- but when it comes to Alice I don't always want to think in terms of what's best from the accountant's perspective before I express an opinion. At his concerts I am transported...

Re: Advertising and ticket sales

I think there's something in what dadascot is saying. Like many of us, I suspect, I get quite a few e-mails from ticket sites. Ticketmaster/ See Tickets/ AEG and the like seem very keen on reminding me that Deep Purple, for example, are playing the UK at the end of the year- but if I hadn't already ...

Re: Alice reference in movie?

Can't help with that one, but the reference to movies reminded me that Rob Zombie is to make a film of the last few years of Groucho Marx. Will Alice get more than a passing reference there, I wonder?

Re: Alice considering re-recording some early 80's material

Dada is a great piece of work but Alice's physical and mental state, which obviously played an important part in its creation, is surely not something any fan would want a repeat of. It follows (for me at least) that I loved the Constrictor through to Hey Stoopid period simply because, having feared...

Re: How does Alice do it?

I've seen Alice over 40 times since 1982 and he's always put on a great show. I can also think of numerous occasions where I've had refunds from other artists concerts because of cancellation due to "lost voice/illness". Alice is either invincible or has such a strong work ethic/ respect for his fan...

Constrictor follow-up Raise your Hand and Vote?

This month's Viz runs the following exclusive.... "I wanna be elected" sang shock rocker Alice cooper on his 1972 hit of the same name. and in real life, Cooper did indeed want to be elected, standing as an Independent candidate in a 1986 council by-election for a vacant ward in the north- eastern c...

Re: The Producers

From tommycooper: "I bet they'd have got on well too with their shared love of film" They met in London in 1974 which I'm sure Alice was happy about as he was such an admirer. Thanks Andy. Alice has talked a lot about his love of the stripped down garage sound but was an admirer of John Barry's wor...

Re: Looking for an answer......

Only two stand out for me. Bob, of course, and David Foster for the magnificent From The Inside. Alice was an admirer of the late John Barry and I'd have loved if they could have collaborated on a Bond theme (or indeed anything). I think The Man With The Golden Gun was Barry's weakest Bond effort bu...

Re: FTI vs. TLT

I play FTI more than any other Alice album so I guess that's my answer. It arrived about 18 months after Lace & Whiskey which for Alice had been the longest break ever between albums. Given the style of L&W and the alcohol stories at the time FTI was a real gift. I spent ages admiring the door cover...

Re: Other musical artists view of Alice the person

Saw the Shep documentary the other night and there's a point where Shep is pleading with Teddy Pendergrass to go on stage when he doesn't want to. Shep talked of Karma and treating your audience with the utmost respect. I think Alice and Shep's ethics have served them (and us) very well

Re: Lace & Whiskey and Maurice Escargot

Always loved My God. Big production for a big subject. Loved it even more years later when I finally saw the lyrics and knew what he was singing about way down in the mix! That big space in I Never Wrote Those Songs became much easier to deal with when CDs appeared and I no longer had to listen to w...
