Re: Mick Mashbir

I wrote 137,000 words for my book then landed a standard first-time-author publishing deal for 90,000 words. Before all of the required editing, there was more praise for both Mick and Bob. We had already clawed our way to stardom when they stepped in. Bob seemed like more of an observer to the circ...

Re: Platinum God

I enjoy PLATINUM GOD, but with You, Mike Bruce, Mike Marconi , Mick Mashbir and "Rockin''" Reggie helping out, Neal's solo album is almost a group album. You're right, it was like most solo albums where all of the usual suspects lend a hand. Neal wrote the songs then Marconi, and I helped him devel...

Re: Muscle of love expanded

I was notified that the release was coming after Warner/Rhino had already decided what songs would be included. "Baby Please Don't Stop" would have been nice, as well as "School's Back In" but perhaps someday. Brian Kehew did a great job restoring and mixing the outtakes that were available though. ...

Re: Platinum God

The natives that faintly leaked through during the pause in "Levity Ball" was a recording that I had made from a television broadcast of King Solomon's Mines. We recorded over that but it didn't get fully erased due to the worn heads on our old reel to reel tape recorder. I had recorded a scene in t...

He had tears in his eyes when I told him he's a filthy liar. Never talked to him again. :rotfl: :rotfl: No. It was just a joke. But wouldn't it be awesome if that friend read this. Or the original guy and he could finally show it to his friend, and tell him, I told you so, after half a century of be...

I was that friend. Now I believe it. :rotfl: :rotfl:
Really? Well, the mystery of half a century is finally solved. What town was it and how did your undeservedly duped friend react at the time?

The commission in New York City are in charge of nominations and overseeing voting. As an inductee, I get to vote for my top 5 choices from a list of about 15 finalists. I try to base my choices on artist's originality and their influence on other entertainers rather than who my personal favorites a...

I've never thought about it but perhaps Bill Wyman's Famous Framus. I admire Paul McCartney for owning the upright bass used by Bill Black on Elvis' "Heartbreak Hotel." Bergdorf Goodman on 5th Avenue in New York City are legendary for their holiday window displays. They once had a window with a musi...

Re: Toronto rock and roll revival

There are insightful stories in Snakes! Guillotines! Electric Chairs! and in Living and Touring with Alice Cooper. However, here's a story that didn't make the final edit in my book. The festival had rented a house with a small empty room where we set up to rehearse with Gene Vincent. Through the ye...

Yes, DDP had started working on a second album. We were working on "Fireball" and "Bottomless Well" when Rick Tedesco decided to do a solo album.

Re: Songwriting

Hi Dennis, I'm wondering, if you were to give 3 tips on how to write a good song ... what would it be? Good songs can reveal themselves in many different ways, however, for me, it usually begins with a thought that grabs me in some way. The thought, or idea, usually has a mood that supports the fee...

Re: THE NEW SOUND TV show, may 1969

My best guess is that it was something that Joe Greenberg arranged - he was the co-manager that was always on the phone hustling up opportunities in the Hollywood days. So I sent the photos to Joe. He said he doesn't remember it, but he does remember getting the Acoustic Amplifier Company to sponsor...

Re: THE NEW SOUND TV show, may 1969

Anders,

Usually, my memory is fairly vivid, however, it has proven to be selective, and unfortunately, I don't remember anything about this gig.

In those days, we felt we had the visuals for TV appearances, but our image caused things like this to be rare.

The Hiwatt amps behind our amps in the photo of Alice holding the chicken and pointing tells me that its from Alice Cooper and the Who at the Grande Riviera in Detroit 10/11/69. We used chickens a few times. Alice would toss one out and whoever caught it would be invited back stage to meet us and we...

Re: Hot and Cold

That second Michigan gig was dangerous in a couple of ways. The ice storm caused the equipment van to show up later than the band. So bikers were hassling us while we waited. Then we found out the house band refused to let us use the stage, and so the club owner had the staff move several tables tog...

Despite playing lots of gigs in Phoenix, Arizona, I think the hottest was in recent years with Blue Coupe with Tish and Snooky at the Great South Bay Music Festival 7/21/19. Our drummer, Albert Bouchard didn't remember the final note of our closing song due to heat exhaustion. Luckily a nurse was ba...

I had met Si and hung out with him in America and the UK. I liked his demeanor and his integrity so I visited the site. I found lots of back and forth about the history of the band so I offered to do this in the spirit of bringing fans together with a few of my insights.

Re: A and E special

Since you mentioned that there have been recordings with the members of the original group that has yet seen the light of day, I am guessing it’s the secessions that Michael Bruce mentioned a while back. I would imagine that has to be a bit frustrating that it’s still on the shelf as I’m totally co...

I agree that another hour would have been nice. There are a few things I would have done differently, however I feel like the band finally got some props and that alone gets my approval. As for the recordings, we did do some songs that have yet to see the light of day so let's keep our fingers cross...

Re: Medium's effect

Our initial concept for Love It To Death was light vs. dark where all of the light (positive) songs were to be on one side and all of the dark songs were to be on the other side. That was somewhat derailed by us prioritizing what we thought was an overall better song order based on the formula we al...
