Re: Toronto Rock 'n' Roll Revival
The promoter for the Rock and Roll Revival found himself in over his head so our managers Joe Greenberg and Shep Gordon offered to take over organizing the festival providing Alice Cooper is included in the show. In the spirit of fitting an avant garde act onto the bill, we were to back up Gene Vinc...

Re: Becky Weaver and Generation Landslide
I didn't know Becky Weaver. To me, she seems fictitious, however, upon hearing Glen and Alice mention her, I was in on the joke. Becky Weaver became the symbol for people that didn't get what we were doing. The word lame might be a bit too harsh so let's say she was naive and had zero chance of ever...

Re: The makeup question
For the original Alice Cooper, everything was continually evolving. Each stage show, including clothing, props, and even type of execution, were styled to make each tour unique unto itself. This all happened at a fast pace. Yes, I spotted the giant poster with the clown with the spidery eye makeup a...

Re: “Elected” Promo Film
We knew Stacy Keach when he was a young actor. He and his film partner treated us to private screenings of two of their films. One was a beautiful roam through Morocco, which was heavy on colorful visual transitions and, as I recall, didn't have a plot or even any people in it. I think they were sho...

Re: Fingers vs. Picks
You’re right, D&C. I apologize. Dennis, even though you’re a stinky poo-poo, we all still love you. No offense taken. It's a curse to suggest looking for those Herco picks. I suspect that the existing ones out there might be brittle from age, anyway. I've tried before, and think I'll try again, to ...

Re: The Track Team
In the 60's desert town of Phoenix, Arizona, you just never saw anyone out jogging unless they were on a school team. It was generally considered to be something that only weirdos would do. Cortez High School had a great long distance coach, Emmett Smith, who also taught English and Journalism. Coac...

Re: Final Gig in Rio, April 6, 1974
I checked Cindy's diary. She wrote that we had just returned from Brazil where we played 5 shows - 3 in Sao Paulo and 2 in Rio. She said it was hot and crazy and that we drew over 100,000 fans in Sao Paulo. Even that doesn't jog my memory. I still only recall the big show in Sao Paulo and the exclus...

Yes, that Herco pick you posted the link for is the one I used. I used to have tons of them, but now they're scarce and I'd love to find more.

Re: Fingers vs. Picks
There's no question that flesh against a bass string gets a solid, round, full-bodied sound which has served multitudes of great bassists for most any style of music, including rock. Most of the bass players that I admire play with their fingers, but that doesn't mean that I want to sound like them....

Yep. I felt everything in your comment, Dennis. You write very conversationally. Love it! How about a good moment that wasn't in the book? It doesn't have to be a milestone, just something fun... Thanks! Very little of what I've written here in the Secret Diaries Forum is in my book. Rather than as...

Re: Final Gig in Rio, April 6, 1974
My memories of Brazil are mostly vivid but with exception. I remember playing to an exclusive audience in Rio. The room was more intimate and I enjoyed playing on a flat stage again. I've heard a bootleg recording of that show in which Glen was tuning his guitar between songs, so to help maintain th...

Re: Onstage Good, Bad, and Ugly.
Alice Cooper once played a gig in Ohio in the 70's. The stage was about knee high so I jumped into the audience feeling pretty cool about myself. When I made a run back toward the stage, I was overly confident about my ability to leap and caught my foot on the front of the stage slamming me and my b...

Re: Billion Dollar Babies - intermission music.
I'm not sure who suggested it but it was always a favorite with Alice and I because of Disney's Fantasia. We wanted a scary segue for a costume change and something lengthy enough to give the crew enough time to roll the props into place. "Night on Bald Mountain" and, I think, "In The Hall of The Mo...

Re: Reaction of family members
Then my grandparents invited the band and crew to the farm for a wonderfully fresh homegrown meal. Afterwards, grandpa piled the band into the bed of his pickup and drove us around the area where I lived as a kid. Whenever we passed a neighboring farmer in his field, grandpa had a loudspeaker mounte...

My grandma was at Hayward Field in '69 and I later overheard her telling a friend, Denny's a good boy. I just wish he hadn't hooked up with those Beatle fellers.

Re: Here's a cool photo
The legendary Richard Avedon took that photo in his studio in New York City. We did some other shots of us dressed like successful businessmen for the Billion Dollar Babies concept. I didn't have a suit so Avedon loaned me one of his. I had my shoe off in reference to Paul McCartney being barefoot o...

Re: Describe your typical fan.
The Alice Cooper group didn't fit in. We didn't want to. That was a big part of the appeal for those that got what we were doing. Everybody that visits this site loves rock, therefore, regardless of our varied opinions about what songs we like best, we all fit in. Alice has said, in the early days, ...

Re: Duane Eddy and The Rebels
Well, this is a bit sappy compared to the excitement of the band actually playing live but that is one of the songs they played at the Fox Theater.
