PHOENIX (AP) - Shock-rocker Alice Cooper and his wife, Sheryl, are putting on a patriotic show at a Phoenix elementary school this week.
The Coopers have been writing and directing the annual Hopi Elementary Variety Show every year since having to sit through what seemed like an endless recital for their daughter at the school 14 years ago.
"It was dry as it could be," Sheryl Cooper said.
This year's show, Hopi Doodle Dandy, mixes the mystery of a missing Declaration of Independence with songs, dances and skits.
The show was expected to sell out Thursday and Friday, packing more than 3,000 people into an auditorium for two shows at Arcadia High School.
"It's phenomenal," said Chris Sibbio, the show's producer for several years, whose first-grader is in the cast. "It's mini-Broadway. It's not a talent show, it's a full-blown production."
Alice Cooper will make his annual appearance in the show, as will Sheryl. She'll play a svelte redhead who dons a 400-pound fat suit to become the character Large Marge.
Diamondbacks players Mark Grace, Jay Bell and Luis Gonzalez are making video appearances. The finale will feature a snow machine and balloon drop

Originally this was a normal Alice tour with The Wildhearts supporting. It was then 'hi-jacked' into a portable, indoor version of the Monsters of Rock Donington Festival with three support bands, compare and DJ.
Wildhearts walked out as soon as Thunder where placed above them on the bill, and then various bands were announced as playing including Halford, LA Guns (who where supposed to be playing the whole European tour) and Cinderella before settling on Quireboys and Dogs D'Amour. This led to several variations of posters and adverts and much confusion as to who was actually playing with fans of the other bands arriving at the show only to discover, once inside(many posters outside the venues were wrong), that their band wasn't playing!

May 3rd '03 Summer Music Mania 2003 at the Coors Amphitheater in Chula Vista, California- This was a Fox network special with various artists performing a song for a program to be aired on May 22nd. Alice closed the show with 'Schools Out' backed by the normal band but with Chuck Garric replacing the departed Chuck Wright (who left when the DT tour finished). Stefan Adika had filled in for the last couple of shows.
May 6th '03 Alice appeared at Cooperstown in Cleveland for an anniversary party for the Cleveland Cooperstown which had been open for a year.
