SickthingsUK: Alice Cooper Store: Other Stuff
SickthingsUK Recommends

This part of the store is simply here to point out some stuff I like, or that is maybe going to appeal to visitors to this site. Nothing here will be Alice Cooper related but it may serve to highlight some things people may otherwise miss.

Rob Zombie - Educated Horses
Rob's back with a new album that has some clear touches of Alice here and there. More diverse maybe then previous Zombie albums but that is a good thing. Well worth checking out.
Released March 27th.

Devin Townsend Band - Synchestra
Possibly the best kept secret in music Townsend is a genius who creates some of the most original "heavy" music you will ever hear. Personally I far prefer his solo work to that of his main band Strapping Young Lad. This is his latest solo offering and again it is a masterpeice of invention and off the wall ideas, although maybe this one is a little more accessable then previous classics. UK version comes with a free DVD.

Batman Begins
How did this movie not get more attention then it did? I remember when the Tim Burton Batman came out to glowing reviews, and it's a good movie, but it wasn't the perfect Batman movie fans wanted. This is. For a longtime Bat-fan there are real "wow" moments all through this one. Moments when you are watching on the edge of your seat and just can't believe how good something looks, or how cool a line of dialogue placed in the right place can be. Forget all the other Bat-films. This is the only one you need to see.

The Tubes - Wild West Show DVD
Filmed At London Shepherds Bush Empire a few months ago (I was there!) this is the full Tubes show for 2005 with all the usual over the top theatrics and cool songs but this time with a western theme! There's also a couple of brand new songs on here that will be on the forthcoming studio album. The Tubes went to high school with Alice Cooper and an Alice fan should enjoy this.

Hawkwind - Take Me Too Your Leader
Long awaited (by fans anyway) new album from the Sonic Assassins that have been playing their unique brand of Space Rock for over 35 years.
All new material including contributions from Arthur Brown, Lena Lovich, Lemmy and Matthew Wright! Buy now at a bargain price and get an exclusive DVD as well!

Neil Gaiman - American Gods
Neil Gaiman is a genius. In 'American Gods' the writer on 'The Last Temptation' comic, the Sandman series and possibly the biggest name in comics, takes the reader on a road trip with a difference, full of wonderful characters and typical Gaiman weirdness.
Hardback Book

Carnivale Season 1
'Carnivale' is one of the best new TV series of the last few years. A supernatural mystery series, with similarities to 'Twin Peaks in style, that slowly unfolds, rarely explaining anything in back and white and often genuinely surprising the viewer. A future classic.
DVD Box Set

Firefly Complete
Another DVD set, this time featuring every episode of 'Firefly' from 'Buffy' creator Joss Weldon. Cruelly cut short by dumb TV executives, this "cowboys in space" series is just as good as 'Buffy/Angel' with great characters you quickly grow to care for. Get in on this secret treasure now before the forthcoming 'Serenity' big screen movie arrives later this year.
DVD Box Set

Clive Barker - Galilee
Veteran horror writer Barker ('Hellraiser', 'Weaveworld') should be no stranger to most people reading this site. I could have chooses several other Barker novels but this one was one I particularly enjoyed. A real can't-put-down book.
Hardback Book

Cardiacs - Sing To God
I can't do any list of recommendations without including Cardiacs. Possibly the greatest band ever to come out of the UK. 25+ years after forming they are still performing and tearing the roof off every venue they play. This album is arguably their best although any album is worth buying. However they are NOT everyone's cup of tea, so check the links page for a link to samples before buying.
Double DVD

Doctor Who - The New Series Disc 1
After 16 years its back! And back with a roar. No more wobbly sets or naff SFX, this is The Doctor for a new century. This disc features the first three episodes of the new series and its great. But beware, there are no extras on this disc. The extras are being saved up for a full series special edition set coming in November.

Michael Moorcock - Dancers At The End Of Time
I've been a huge fan of Moorcock's writing for many years. His books run from sword and sorcery to hard scifi to historical fantasy but always have his unique mark on them. This book is possibly my favourite book (or in fact trilogy of books) of all time. Incredible imaginative it tells the story of a decadent traveler from the end of time, who falls in love with a prim and proper victorian lady and shows Morecock's imagination in full flow.

Red Dwarf
Another classic British TV series, this set contains the first FOUR seasons on a four disc set at a bargain price. The story of Dave Lister, the last human left alive, and his companions a hologram, a robot and a life form evolved from his pet cat is incredibly funny and rewards repeat viewing. Better than Life!
DVD Box Set (UK)/Series 1&2 (US)

Lennon - 5:30 Saturday Morning
I discovered Lennon when they supported Alice Cooper in the US a couple of years ago and this is the first album. A great slab of rock/metal slightly reminiscent of 'Evanescence' but better! Heavy guitars and delicate keyboards mix well on some classic songs. Finally being stocked by AmazonUK!
CD

The Tubes - What Do You Want From Live
Classic live album from 1977. The Tubes took theatrics to a new level and were sometimes seen as more of a theater group then a band, but the music proves that untrue as the band blast through early classic in a superb performance. If you haven't discovered The Tubes yet, this is the perfect place to start.
CD

Star Wars Trilogy
What can be said about the first three Star Wars films that hasn't been said before. You know what they are. This set includes original trilogy of films plus tons of extras and commentaries. Every home should have one.
DVD set

Terry Pratchett - Monsterous Regiment
The umpteenth book in the discworld series. I cold have chosen numerous ones but this is a recent one and up there with the best of them. No one does comic fantasy as well as Pratchett.

Grant Morrison/Dave Mckean - Arkham Asylum
I've been a comics fan since I was old enough to read and this beautiful graphic novel with full color art by 'Last Temptation' cover artist Dave Mckean is a classic in sequential art featuring The Batman and The Joker as you've never seen them before.

J.M DeMatteis/Jon J. Muth - Moonshadow
This one is for all those who think comics are about overgrown men in tights saving the world. 'Moonshadow' is a fully painted adult fairy tale is a work that evokes comparison with Lewis Carroll & William Blake. Born in an intergalactic zoo Moonshadow is suddenly kicked out of his home at the age of fourteen into an uncaring cosmos. He embarks on a journey which takes him not only to different planets, but also to the farthest reaches of the human heart. A classic.
