No, you aren't missing anything. They don't make sense at all. As I said in one of the other threads, I think Alice just made a list of words that rhyme and put them in the song, not caring whether they made sense.

I don't get this. First people complain that the lyrics on ACAS is to simple and straightforward and when they aren't too straightforward people complain that they don't make sense. How can you have it both ways?

The lyrics do make sense in a way, but to answer the original question, yes, if English isn't your first language they would probably make no sense at allif you try and translate them.

It's simply word play, discribing how the victim looks using some unusual metaphors. She's scared basically, and maybe looks like she's been running (chased?).
That's my take on it anyway.

That's what I was thinking as well Si.

I'm just annoyed at people who said that the lyrics are straightforward and when they come a cross a couple that aren't they don't think "Oboy, here's some not straightforward lyrics we can interpret", they choose to complain about them not making sense instead.

Still disagree. Alice is spending way too much time trying to rhyme and far too little time actually trying to say anything.

Blame that on Zodiac Mindwarp!

OOPS!!! sorry....still a truly awful lyric though!!!

I agree. I truly dislike that song more than any other, I think. I wish he'd bin that and play 'Teenage Frankenstein' instead. It's not great, but it's better than that!

Oh, and I can't believe nobody mentioned this yet:

'I can't get a girl
cuz I ain't got a car
I can't get a car
cuz I ain't got a job
I can't get a job
cuz I ain't got a car
So I'm looking for a girl with a job and a car
Don't you know where you are

Lost in America

I got a mom but I ain't got a dad
My dad's got a wife but she ain't my mom
Mom's looking for a man to be my dad
But I want my mom and dad to be my real
mom and dad
Is that so bad
Oh, I think I've been had

Lost in America

Well, I live at the 7-11
Well, I'm tryin' to play this guitar
Well, I'm learning "Stairway to Heaven"
Cuz Heaven's where you are

I can't go to school
cuz I ain't got a gun
I ain't got a gun
cuz I ain't got a job
I ain't got a job
cuz I can't go to school
So I'm looking for a girl with a gun and a job ( and house... with cable )
Don't you know where you are

Lost in America'

I mean, I realise it's satire, but that doesn't make it any easier to listen to... :nono:

Yeah, I have always hated Lost in America. I really wish he would drop it from the setlist.

It still has some appeal for me live.

I would much rather see something else from TLT. You're My Temptation anyone?

Ok, I can see how it can be read and understood that way, but still think this could have been said/written better. And I must say the metaphors really are unusual (and a strech). There are other parts of the lyrics on this new album that are far better than these lines. But I dont expect everything to be to my liking

Woah---I gotta say I think Lost in America is some of Alice's most clever writing.
I agree with people who think the time in the set list could be put to better use, but I think these are some great lyrics.

I like it too. Granted, it is repetitive.....but, as I see it....the repetition is part of the message!

I love Lost in America. I love Most of The Last Temptation.....except for Cleansed by Fire and Unholy War are my least favorite.

But, you have to give it to Alice....Out of 40 years of music...he may only have 40- 50 songs that are *possibly* unlikeable out of nearly 300!

Yeah, there are very few tracks on TLT that I don't like, BUT there are alot of tracks I like better than LIA. Nothings free or example, BUT Your my temptation would great onstage between Alice and Calico. She so would have helped a live TLT tour.

LIA is great live... and I love how the band just launches right into it after the previous song.

Personally, I love "No Baloney Homosapiens" for its absurdity. Actually, I love the bulk of the songs that have been cited, and I totally disagree with the person who posted every lyric from "Da Da." Seems to be no middle ground -- fans either love that album or passionately loathe it.

For me, there's only one truly awful, cringe-worthy Cooper song, and he didn't write it: "Ubangi Stomp."

Ubangi Stomp is a rock and roll
It beats anything that's ever been told
Ubangi Stomp, Ubangi style
When it kicks, it drives a cool cat wild

I would've preferred a studio recording of "The Lady Is a Tramp" or anything -- and I mean anything -- in place of that track. I'd even have settled for three and a half minutes of Alice scraping his nails on a chalkboard. It'd make me far less neurotic than enduring that song.

The Jerry Lee Lewis version is better, but Alice does a fair job.
