Alice Unplugged

Post by rgallie » Sun Jun 14, 2020 12:06 am

Lots of artost release one of these. Could it work?

I think if he stuck to the deeper tones with the odd rasp then yeah. But thats only with a conventional unplugged album.

Alice unplugged with some harpsichord for example would be a game changer :rotfl:

Back when the MTV unplugged series was around , Alice said multiple times he would never do an unplugged show or recording

would be so "un-alice" , don't think it could work and as nurserozetta said: he always said he never would. I know it would not be the first time Alice did something unexpected, but no, not in this case imo.
you really wouldn't understand..

The unplugged sessions seemed to evolve into little more than acoustic guitars through amps with everything else - bass, keyboards, drums, whatever - pretty much standard, so I don't think the sound would have to be radically different.

I actually like this idea, as a variation on the Nightmare Special. Plenty of smoke and mirrors in a way. Alice in gothic settings, ruined buildings, old bars or ballrooms etc.

There are the standard hit ballads he's played of course, but the rest of the set could be fascinating.

I like the idea of it opening with an acoustic Hard hearted Alice. After that, all sorts could be thrown in. Wake Me Gently, Jackknife Johnny, Die For You, It's Me, Six Hours, The Saga of Jessie Jane, Zombie Dance, Pretty Ballerina (a bit for Sheryl right there!), there are loads to choose from.

Not forgetting the group years with tasty versions of Alma Mater, Blue Turk and Crazy Little Child (he could look out his Lace and Whisky outfit for that).

We could finally get to see him do Former Lee Warmer and Pass the Gun Around.

I can't see anyone financing this of course, no danger at all.

Maybe he could throw in a few duets to boost the appeal. Round the whole thing off with a Something To Remember Me By duet with Donny Osmond. "And who gave it to ya?"

The world is longing for an unplugged version of "Thrill My Gorilla".

Worth a thought for the replies...Ha thrill my gorilla maybe could go a miss but a lot from the ACG years would work and plenty up until the end of the black out years, then the odd track here and there after. As Vineraven suggested the Gothic setting could still really work. I guess it would only sell to a minority.

I think it could have been an interesting idea if approached differently than what the "Unplugged" series normally did. To hear acoustic B$B/Eighteen or an all acoustic ballad like INC or OWB wouldn't have been exciting. But to do a different music genre like like incorporate a tin-pan alley or old jazz sound and instrumentation. Trumpet, stand up bass, drummer with brushes, honky tonk piano, banjo.

With new arrangements and a set list including some deep cuts

Crazy Little Child
I'm the Coolest
Blue Turk
Shoe Salesman
Alma Mater
Some Folks

I could dig it

I hope this never happens. Former Lee Warner with just a piano accompaniment would be interesting though.

Greetings from Pensacola Beach, where I'm on extended vacation.

When they whipped out the acoustic guitars on I Never Cry during the Dirty Diamonds tour, I cried - oh boy did I! All I could hear was a hipster mess and all I saw was kindling. I paid good money to see something even worse than Every Rose Has It's Thorn. It was like a visit to Guitar Center. Still waiting on an apology and a refund.

Thrill My Gorilla is great - so no effin' around with that masterpiece.

Several years ago I proposed that AC should tour Dada with a chamber orchestra...no regular band. No hair coloring. Just Old Man Cooper in his decrepit mansion, telling the story. Forget the rock star image. He's old and that's okay.

I definitely wouldn't care for this. I hated all the unplugged things bands were doing. A song here or there is fine but an entire show or album, no way.

I agree completely. Few songs would work. Desperado could sound good. To be honest I don't think Alice has the voice anymore that could lend itself to too many songs in an acoustic setting.

Alice has a lot of songs he can do acoustic. I can see Desperado as well as his ballads. Even youtube people do acoustic versions of Alice Songs that aren't bad at all. I don't know why he's dead set against it. Geesh! the guy rapped in a few songs. If there is one thing not to do is old guys don't rap.

A lot of KISS fans thought KISS unplugged wouldn't work at all, and that album is, IMO, one of the best KISS albums.
