Though it hasn't been in the setlist for a while now, the answer to that is easy: it's a crowd-pleaser with the "diamond" necklaces he throws out. I assume it's a song Alice likes a lot, too, but it's really engages the crowd.

Very difficult this question, so congrats for asking it

Like the Eurovision song contest, the votes from the Republic of Recoop are as follows

1. Paranormal
2. Brutal Planet
3. ACAS
4. W2MN

To be honest the euphoria of a new Alice may die down but this is my view. The only album in this period I didn't buy into was Dragontown-I respect others views but feel that it was leftovers from BP- Deeper reminds me of a hypnotherapy induction method btw.

Eyes and DD had good moments as virtually all Alice product has.

1. Brutal Planet - Amazing album from start to finish and one of my favorite Alice albums ever. The title track should have been released as a single to radio, if so I think Alice's career would have been a lot better off to this day. It would have been the right place right time.

2. Dragontown - Another really good album. I like this one almost as much as Brutal Planet.

3. Along Came A Spider - As most people say, the production wasn't the best and the songs were a bit of a let down after all the incredible promotion. Despite the production there are still some good songs.

4. Paranormal - Pretty good album that starts and ends well. I'm surprised some of the songs like Holy Water made it on the album though. This could trade places with Along Came A Spider, but it's still a little too new to decide just yet.

5. Welcome 2 My Nightmare - I liked the nostalgia but I didn't like the Weird Al Type humor. It should have went in a darker direction like What's Under My Bed, which would have been the best song on the album if it was included. Just too much comedy for me.

6. Dirty Diamonds- I don't listen to this one very often. There are some good songs but it's not one of my favorites.

7. The Eyes Of Alice Cooper - I've never been big a fan of this one. It's just not really my thing.

Neither have I. It has been an interesting thread & the rankings have been well thought out...in various ways & forms. Maybe we should let this play out? You did bring it up though. Thanks.

Those handclaps are actually the producers applauding themselves.

Anyway, my list.

1. Brutal Planet. An album of near perfection from beginning to end.
2. W2MN, tho not without it's faults
3. Dirty Diamonds
4. Eyes of Alice Cooper (Dirty Diamonds and Eyes sometimes wrestle each other.)
5. Dragontown
6. Paranormal - Has some good tunes but not a classic album IMHO

10. Along Came A Spider... if someone were to say to me "Do you think you can do better?" My answer would have to be "Yes."

W2MN, don't even mind DBBF & GGW, just hate the ballad
DT, not as solid as BP top to bottom, but I play the best songs more frequently and sharper wit lyrically
BP,
Paranormal, FB alone moves it up
DD & EoAC, both have some highs and lows
ACAS, not good, but way better than...
HV, worst AC project since Flash Fearless

Brutal Planet - the high points are amazing, if not for too many filler songs, could have been an all-time classic AC album.

Dragontown - a worthy followup, but missing the high points of BP

Paranormal - some genuinely good songs, would rank higher if it was more cohesive, too many guest spots, not enough snarl

The Eyes of Alice Cooper - very solid well produced album with minimal filler, lots of B+ songs, but no As

Dirty Diamonds - More uneven than Eyes... the title track is strong

W2MN - doesn't hold up, way too silly and gimmicky, not enough good songs and some truly awful ones

Along Came A Spider - terrible production, the best ideas are not fleshed out and everything sounds too similar, forgettable on every level

Eyes of Alice Cooper - A great return to form. Strong songs and great band. The best modern AC record.

Paranormal - A slow grower, but the highlights are massive. Fireball is a modern classic.

Brutal Planet - Slightly dated by the production, but a strong album

W2MN - Patchy but full of great ideas

Dirty Diamonds - Fun album. Very enjoyable listen.

Dragontown - Less cohesive than BP but still some nice touches

ACAS - No redeeming features. Painful to listen to.

Okay fans, here we go...cumulative rankings up through While Heaven Wept.

Drum roll...

1. Brutal Planet (AVR 2.36, #1 choice 11 times) Easy win.

2. Paranormal (AVR 3.50, #1 choice 4 times) Solid start, my bet is it'll just get better with more listens.

3. W2MN (AVR 3.60, #1 choice 4 times) Close race with P and could overtake P when more votes are cast. Either that or P will create more distance.

4. Dirty Diamonds (AVR 3.93, #1 choice 4 times). Nice showing.

5. Eyes of Alice Cooper (AVR 3.98, #1 choice 2 times). Another close race and DD and EOAC could flip flop with more voting.

6. Dragontown (AVR 4.16, #1 choice 0 times). Pretty good album to be ranked this low.

7. Along Came a Spider (AVR 5.96, #1 choice 0 times). Far and away the least liked. Ranked last 14 times.

Nice to see Alice's last 2 albums ranked high (even though I personally didn't like W2MN). He's aging well!

...your welcome!

1. BP/DT they should of been a single release. Perfect double concept record.
2. W2MN
3. Paranormal. Love holy water fierball pp. and the rest. But those stand out right now
4. ACAS. Love the story
5. EOAC/DD. SOME good songs. Could if been a single release as a double record. Not a big fan of these. PFY is more appealing to me

I may update the rankings if we get a significant number of people contributing in the days and weeks ahead.

One thing that occurred to me is that those are 7 pretty good albums. Not too shabby for a recording artist in his career years where he is over 50.

Any thoughts or opinions on the ranks? Predictable or surprising?

Thanks for doing that. It wasn't a surprise to see Brutal Planet at the top and ACAS at the bottom. It would be hard to argue against those placings. I think there is quite a bit of shab in these years to be honest. Right now Paranormal is very refreshing. Maybe I'll do my list when I have a moment.

Good little topic this as this period is one that is probably fully relevant to us all.

Brutal Planet is right at the top for me, having not only been a big comeback after a 6-year hiatus but also catapulting Alice into the 21st century with a distinct mimicking of the sound at the time. Cold Machines is the most obvious example of this with clear parallels with The Beautiful People by MM. The tour was also first class and spawned the excellent Brutally Live video. 9/10

Dragontown was an excellent follow-up considering it came just a year after BP. It was, however, reasonably obvious that it contained some filler / left-over material but the quality was still really strong. Triggerman, Dragontown and Sex, Death and Money were real highlights. 7/10

Eyes took some time to adjust to given what proceeded, but this one really grew on me over the coming weeks and months. I wasn't so keen on the reference to things like Xboxs in the lyrics but they have generally aged well and this one is always good for a blast. Between High School and Old School, Man of the Year, Novocaine, Detroit City, Spirits Rebellious and LSNFLT are all great. The Song That Didn't Rhyme sucks massively. 7/10.

I think I slightly prefer Dirty Diamonds to Eyes as it has an even more rough sound to it and slightly more intelligent songs. Side 1 of the LP is particularly strong with a notable decline thereafter. Stand shouldn't have been included on any of the versions, Sharpest Pain should have been. 7/10

ACAS is a very divisive album but nowhere near as bad as some make out. This was the first album where I think song choice and production value really came up for debate and I have no idea why I'll Still Be There didn't make the final cut. Production could easily have been better but Vengeance Is Mine, Catch Me If You Can, Killed By Love are all great. So to was the mini-movie, which probably built up the hype and ultimately led to many disappointed fans. 6/10.

W2MN was a bit of dodgy idea in my eyes, and the cover sucked, but it was actually a damn fine album. Again, song choice wasn't great (Under The Bed anyone) but the production was great and the assortment of songs unrivalled in any AC album I'd say. Disco Bloodath, Ghouls Gone Wild and What Baby Wants are real Marmite songs and probably make or break the album due to their central position. When Hell Comes home is one of Alice's best songs EVER! 7/10.

Very early days for Paranormal (and I've just finished typing up a big review on it) but with extremely strong content like Fireball, Fallen In Love, Rats and the 2 Group tracks, this one is definitely at the 8/10 level.
