Live Hofstra 72.........
Why wasn't this show made available for DVD?

Re: Live Hofstra 72.........
That's a kinda wide question.
Generally I think it's always been down to cost/return. As I understand it (and Andy can correct me) the owners of the footage want a considerable amount for someone to use the complete footage, pricing it out of the market for most companies who would want to release it. The market for such a release is relatively small, so the profit isn't there.
I believe such a release HAS been investigated for various projects in the past. I think it will be released eventually but who knows when.

Si, I hope it gets released, it's a classic performance! On "Super Duper" you get another unreleased show that was strung together, which was by the way nicely done, but there are performances out there that are complete and can't be distributed, real shame!

Re: Live Hofstra 72.........
While there are a few thousand people worldwide that would really love to see and hear a high quality copy of this show, I find it equally baffling and amusing that anyone with complete footage of the original band actually thinks they could have a huge payday for rare footage. This stuff breaks down and playback machines for the original medium get more difficult to find.
Diminishing returns is the phrase that comes to mind.

Are you able to give any examples? For example, the footage under discussion is not.

Re: Live Hofstra 72.........
I had heard years ago that the rest of Hofstra doesn't exist. My guess is that other film snippets are incomplete as well.
Paris Olympia
Hollywood Bowl
Pierre Cardin Theatre
"All You Need Is Love" unknown location
Real shame that the Hollywood Bowl footage wasn't packaged for the Old School set. It as a highlight for the band's career and chances are a good amount of the show exists on film and audio

I seem to recall being told there is more backstage footage, but all the actual onstage footage, ie SO, you have seen across various releases.Toronto Bob wrote: Real shame that the Hollywood Bowl footage wasn't packaged for the Old School set. Re: Live Hofstra 72.........
there was a few seconds of HoF seen in SDAC, so that may exist. The cameras were rolling all day it seems because that SO promo flick has various scenes through out the day and spanning the concert, so there's a chance the entire show was filmed.
Re: Live Hofstra 72.........
True, but even if it was all filmed in 1972 doesn't mean it still exists. I don`t know any more then what I was told.Toronto Bob wrote:there was a few seconds of HoF seen in SDAC, so that may exist. As far as I know, that's all correct.

That is correct. I saw all the footage that could be found and not only is not complete, there is no complete footage of any song.

Re: Live Hofstra 72.........
Ah such a shame. If there's full audio I think a visual collage would be a worthwhile endeavour.
Re: Live Hofstra 72.........
Even without the visual concept a audio cd only would be great.
Re: Live Hofstra 72.........
And what about the DA Pennbaker stuff. Is there any chance that will be released official?
Or the Nightmare special? etc. etc

You should ask him that.

Yes it was right after they played the rehearsal and woke up Frank and Gail. He was so impressed he called up John Lennon and got them on the show. They also backed up Buddy Holly.
