The Perfect Setlist

Post by Desperado22 » Wed Jul 03, 2013 9:36 pm

I apologize if there is a similar thread elsewhere. I did look but couldn't find one. I know there are several threads where setlists are discussed, but I'm not sure if there is a thread like this.
If Alice came to you and asked you to create the setlist for his next tour, what would you do? Keep in mind there has to be at least some of the big hits in order for it to be realistic.
Here is my perfect setlist. I have included most of the hits because I know that they need to be played, but I have also included a lot of the rarer songs I'd like to see.

Sex, Death And Money
Freedom
No More Mr Nice Guy
Raped And Freezing
I'm Eighteen
A Runaway Train
Be My Lover
Caught In A Dream (Plus Guitar Solo)
I'll Bite Your Face Off
Gimme
Former Lee Warmer
Welcome To My Nightmare
Cold Ethyl
Something To Remember Me By
Wake Me Gently
I Love The Dead (Instrumental)
Go To Hell
Vengeance Is Mine
Hey Stoopid
Wind-Up Toy
Billion Dollar Babies
Under My Wheels
Long Way To Go

Encore:
Poison
School's Out
All Of My Life Was A Laugh And A Joke
And A Drink And A Smoke
And Then I Passed Out On The Floor

For me the perfect setlist would be a setlist that has a "story" involving ALL the songs, not even 1 song off that is just "for playing it"

Theatre Of Death, until now Is one of the perfect setlists in my memory

I've got several problems with yours but you did a nice selection of songs

My setlist could probably do with some rearranging lol.

I agree about TOD. Amazing show.

Sorry for the double post, but there is one thing I'd like to add. I'm no longer able to edit my original post, so I just wanted to replace "Sex, death and money" with "Dangerous tonight." That'd be a great way to open up a show.

I'd like to see these songs permanently retired.

The Black Widow
I Never Cry
No More Mr Nice Guy
I'm Eighteen ( someone needs to hide the crutch )
Welcome To My Nightmare
Cold Ethyl
Go To Hell
Billion Dollar Babies

So any set list without these songs.

Nor should they be.

Permanently retiring 3 of an artist's most iconic songs (18, NMMNG and BDB) really makes little sense.

It is what I would like to see not what is going to happen. As great as most of them are they have been done to death.

I'm happy for Alice to keep his biggest hits. Having said that, I have only seen him live 5 times so I have not had the chance to become bored with them yet. The only exception is Poison, as I don't think that has sounded good live since the late 90's.

I wonder if the gentleman with the chip on his shoulder (I believe someone referred to him as Mr. Buzz Kill)....has ever attended an Alice Cooper concert? If he has, he should have noticed that songs like 18, School's Out, B$B, get the loudest reaction from the audience. Now I realize that 'Buzz' did state that his personal preference was that these songs (and other originals, I'm sure) should be retired. However, the initial post on this thread stated that any list SHOULD include some of the classics....so 'Buzz' was disrespecting the original idea of this thread.

:nono:

Not to be too pedantic, but MY 'perfect' set list would include mostly pre-1974 songs, along with about half a dozen 'solo' tracks, including Hallow's Grave. I am sure many here would not like to see such a set, but, to each his own. Yet....I think MY perfect set listwould appeal to a typical AC audience better than the one which Buzz would have created...if he wasn't so busy polishing his shoulder chip.

"Only women Bleed", "No More Mr. Nice Guy", "School's Out" and "I never cry", I could live without. Unfortunately, here's the reality check, "Schools Out" will never be cut out. It's not that they are great songs, I love them, but I would rather have some rarities instead. The rest of those songs that you mentioned I never get tired of. Btw, he hardly plays "Black Widow", most of the years it was instrumental, so I'm always happy to hear it in it's entirety.

Bed of Nails should come back, It's the best song from Trash and in 2004 the audience went crazy with it!

Another song I'd simply LOVE to hear is Generation Landslide but if i'm correct they've been trying this and it doesn't work with the show

There's only one song in my opinion I Could live without in the set and that is Poison, It doesn't get in the show in my opinion, I Prefer the Raise The Dead section (specially now with the Under The Bed intro)

As I understand it, Bed Of Nails is now considered a no no due to Alice's faith. Although he played it in 2004 which is confusing.
I've never understood what songs he won't play anymore. He once said he wouldn't play Trash anymore but he did a few years ago.
Even so, Bed Of Nails is no more unchristian than Feed My Frankenstein or House Of Fire, both of which are played in his current tour.
All Of My Life Was A Laugh And A Joke

There is no mystery. He is allowed to change his mind just like everyone else is.

My opinion
Bed of nails is out because of the audience, there are lots of kids in his audience nowadays, maybe that's the reason he left out a song that is more mmmm explicit ?
