Poison Live
Sorry if this has been discussed before. I was just wondering if anyone else thinks that Poison just doesn't sound good live anymore. I realize it will always be in the setlist and I actually love the song.
In the 90's it sounded great. But ever since the Brutal Planet tour it has sounded completely different. The chorus sounds so different from the studio version. It seems like it's a different song as the tune isn't really that similar to the original song.
Does anyone know why Alice changed the tune of the song? Maybe it became harder to perform as he got older. The original chourus is a lot faster after all.
Am I wrong about this, as most of my friends don't really see what I'm talking about?
EDIT: When he performed it on Strictly Come Dancing, it sounded much more like the original song, so it shows he can still do it. I know the music wasn't live but his vocals were.

Re: Poison Live
For what it's worth, I agree. It probably sounded it's best on the Trashes The World tour (apart from the backing singers).
It's a very polished song though so will always sound worse live.
Oh and yes, it sounded good on SCD but then it sounded like a studio recording with live vocals.

Re: Poison Live
Yeah it does seem like a hard song to sing live. I tried to do it at Karaoke and got quite puffed out by the second chorus lol. I thought it sounded really good in the 90's though.wind_up_toy wrote:For what it's worth, I agree. It probably sounded it's best on the Trashes The World tour (apart from the backing singers).

I still enjoy seeing it live, but it's one of the few songs that I don't think sounds great live. At least not anymore.

I agree but it's one of his biggest hits. It will never leave the show.

That's true. I had forgotten about that.Lucius Morthem wrote:Under My Wheels is one of his classic and he didn't play it last show (or Am i wrong?)
Although Poison is one of those songs that people know even if they're not Cooper fans. I can't really see it being dropped but you never know.

Re: Poison Live
I think it's mainly because Poison is a heavily produced song and would be hard to pull off, exactly, live. I still think it sounds good live now though, just different to the original. I'm sure most of the songs on Trash would be hard to pull off without a keyboard player and backing singers like on the tour.

Re: Poison Live
It's a very hard song to do live. It was great in the 90s though. Maybe it's just too much of a strain on his voice now. It is very fast in the chorus, so that could be it.

Re: Poison Live
Poison was easily Alice's biggest hit since the 70's and won him a new base of fans. Dropping it in many people's minds would almost be the equivalent of dropping "School's Out" or "Eighteen" from the setlist.

Re: Poison Live
I know lol. It's not that I hate the live version, I just think it's normally the weakest part of the show. However, I understand why it has to be in the set.

Re: Poison Live
I actually enjoy it live to be honest... more so than the studio version at this point.
But for the love of God, would Alice drop "Feed my Frankenstein" already? I'm not sure I've ever met *anybody* that says they actually really like that song.
It's not going to happen this tour, given that there's now a set piece arranged around it, but please retire it for the next tour or five, please.
