Unofficial DVDs
What's 'the score' with these unofficial DVDs? Si? Andy?
[Link removed as question has been answered below, they are pirated DVD's]

All are illegal releases except, ironically, for the last one which they don't seem to realise is legal (or appears to be).

I'm not going to pretend I don't watch bootlegs or seek them out sometimes, but I was wondering how sites like the one listed above can get away with openly selling bootlegs without getting into trouble?

Thanks Andy, as I thought, I just wanted to check wit you.

Exactly what I was thinking Nick.

Re: Unofficial DVDs
Cos its hardly worth going after them.
Re: Unofficial DVDs
Why though? I'm genuinely curious. How hard can it be to shut them down? Especially when they appear to be selling copies of Trashes The World which is copyrighted?pitkin88 wrote:Cos its hardly worth going after them.
Re: Unofficial DVDs
They are ALL copyrighted.
Re: Unofficial DVDs
Yes, true, I guess I meant TTW is an official release and a label already distributes it. Someone selling copies of it would be no different to me starting a site and selling copies of a movie, and I think I think I'd rightfully get my ass kicked for that.Si wrote:They are ALL copyrighted.

Some probably don't escape prosecution or being shut down but it can take some effort to enforce the law.

Cost and time. Is it worth it for some dvds that are hardly eating into Alice's profits?
Re: Unofficial DVDs
It wouldn`t be Alice and co. as such, but the record companies that own the rights to the material, and they have legal departments who's sole job is to do this. Just depends on whether they spot the site and decide it's worth it.

It's not just about him though. What about the writers of the songs that are being performed or the musicians that are performing those songs? They're not being paid. We can be almost certain that the bootleggers are not sharing their own "profits".

Re: Unofficial DVDs
Didn't see the links but are these pirated discs or are they bootlegs. There is a difference both legally and morally.
Re: Unofficial DVDs
Both. If I remember there were some TV broadcasts (technically bootlegs) and some officially released material like "Trashes The World" and AC & Friends" etc.Toronto Bob wrote:Didn't see the links but are these pirated discs or are they bootlegs. There is a difference both legally and morally.
I personally agree there is a difference bootlegs and piarating, but when you are selling them, not trading, both the difference is lessened.
