It seems nobody cares all that much for the ballad.

I've love many of Alice's ballads, but this one is a swing and a miss for me.

I'm tempted to agree.

It's not a bad song but it doesn't really fit into the nightmare theme (I don't buy the body parts story).

I Liked the ballad. Doesn't need to fit the nightmare. they never do. It's kinda the one track that's on all albums.

true, and it seems funny that the trend didn't begin until "only women bleed" and then up until "flush" and then resuming on "trash" (for the most part).

It really doesn't matter to me whether it fits the story or not, I just think the song is kinda forgettable.

Alice has done some fantastic ballads in his career, but unfortunately this is not one of them.

It's the only song on the album I really find myself skipping over.

maybe it was due to the fact that dick wagner wanted to be more involved with the sequel and couldn't due to health problems that he did this song (?)

Yeah, this is kind of where I am. I've a fan of Alice's ballads...seriously "Every Woman Has a Name" gets to me...every time. Such a fantastic song.

I was looking forward to "Something to Remember Me By." I love the album, but this one really hasn't grown on me.

Can I play too?

Scale 0-11.
0: Unlistenable
1-3 Not good
4-6 That grey area of not good to just OK.
7-8: Good to very good
9-10 Excellent
11: Legendary

I Am Made of You: 9
Caffeine 7
The Nightmare Returns 7
Runaway Train 8
Last Man on Earth 7
The Congregation 7
I'll Bite Your Face Off 9
Disco Bloodbath 1
Ghouls Gone Wild 4
Something To Remember Me By 6
When Hell Comes Home 10
What Baby Wants 1
I Gotta Get Out of Here 8
The Underture 9
Under The Bed 7
We Gotta Get Out of This Place 5
Bad Situation 7
Poison (live) 8
Flatline: ??

I think this a real good album that is a lot of fun to listen too. I'm real interested to see how this album holds up over time with me. For example, I liked The Last Temptation more when it came out than I do now. Where Killer is still legendary all these years later.

My two cents' worth

I Am Made of You 10 <=== Still my favourite track and I think this is one of the songs off this album that I will end up listening to most in a couple of years' time

Caffeine 7

The Nightmare Returns 7 <=== Every time I listen to this album I keep thinking this should have been extended to a full blown 3-5 minute instrumental...slowly taking you into the nightmare

Runaway Train 8

Last Man on Earth 8 <== Alice hadn't done a song sounding like this in a while, I like it.

The Congregation 7

I'll Bite Your Face Off 8 <== Great rocker; the lyrics in the chorus are kind of silly, though so it doesn't get a higher rating.

Disco Bloodbath Boogie Fever 2 <=== worst song since (No More) Love at Your Convenience; only gets 1 point for the good rock part at the end.

Ghouls Gone Wild 3

Something To Remember Me By 6

When Hell Comes Home 9 <=== Second best song on the album IMO.

What Baby Wants 8 <== Surprisingly catchy, I think it works.

I Gotta Get Out of Here 6

The Underture 7 <=== The only complaint is that the W2MN songs selected sound inferior to the WTMN ones especially when juxtaposed in this way.

Under The Bed 7 <=== I think this could have worked on this album

General comments:

(1) The one thing I dislike most is the idea that this album sounds like a re-work of the GTH concept. Lots of references to Hell and Disco.

(2) The most welcome aspect is the reunion of the original band....their 3 songs are some of the best material here; still hoping for that 'ReCooperated' album down the line.

GailsFriend,

Thanks for all your postings of reviews. I really like going through them and enjoy reading what others think of the new album whether they are positive or negative. The first review was very colourful and creative. I could tell they are more of the "exciting/fun Alice fan" rather than the "dark/twisted Alice Fan", since they disliked When Hell Comes Home the most. Also interesting to see ratings like 20 out of 10 haha

Ratings are all based on perspective, biases and psychological interpretation. I've read a ton that show the way people think and why they think in that way. Their personality really comes through when they become overly subjective. Even in an objective way it does too.

Thanks again. You should think about creating your own review site where you give your own reviews on pop culture or Alice related topics and you find other reviews from other perspectives to present to fans. Would be interesting. :alice:

I got the fan pack...and the itunes version....for the bonus tracks. I love "A Bad Situation"....the more I listen to that song, the more it starts to sound like a KISS song. I think Paul or Gene could pull it off well.....

and the lyrics are great..."they took the perspiration of my testiculation..."

Who writes like THAT anymore? Certainly NOT rock bands today...
