Decent album, Clones, Aspirin Damage, Dance Yourself To Death, Headlines, Vicious Rumours, Talk Talk.....all good tracks in my opinion.

It's just too damn short though.

You forgot the great 'Grim Facts'.

I've always loved FTF. It's a great mix of good tunes, a sense of humor, and biting social commentary, something he really didn't nail again until BP twenty years later. It reflected the paranoia of the times (Nuclear Infected, Aspirin Damage) while proving to be somewhat prophetic as well. I remember thinking that the lyrics of Grim Facts were pretty outrageous in 1980, but now any part of the song could be a headline on CNN. And let us not forget the brilliant Model Citizen - a wonderful take on the Alice/Vince dichotomy - who else but Alice would release a New Wave rocker that wittily quotes "Deep in the Heart of Texas"?
FTF is pure tongue-in-cheek punk attitude (in other words - pure Alice).

I was re-reading some of the excellent "social commentary" lyrics on Brutal Planet last week (Another great album whose music initially distracted me from the wonderful lyrics) , and hadn't realised the 20yr gap since Flush The Fashion did a similar thing.....Great insight ,really enjoyed that connection ....thanks

That's funny because I was way into Devo at the time I picked up Flush The Fashion, recall thinking the same thing.

Yeah , and when he name checked DEVO on Dance Yourself To Death , it seemed to confirm some kind of influence.

FTF , Special forces Zipper Da da are catchy ,creative ,weird , and full of twists and turns . This era produced some of the last inovative creative cooper music .

To my ear the architect of shock rock started to use formula way to much after this period . Don't get me wrong there have been some slick tunes but much comes across as cold calculated serious business for the most part ( Alice by numbers i guess one could say ) plus following the general trends . The dirty alley mixed with a los vegas floor show flavour that made the seventies and early 80s albums so great was totaly lost .

I'd forgotten that connection with RTB......so i've just played back some pre-1980 Cars songs .....how could I have not noticed the similarities !!! .....I will hear FTF with different ears now - after 30 yrs

loved it, loved all that era right through to da da.
if alice carried on with the same 70's sound he wouldn't be here today IMHO
i am glad in one way or another, alice has stayed with the musical trends of the day.
when you listen to the songs you still hear the great sense of sarcasim that alice has in his music.

I can remember when "Clones" came on the radio.

I was like, "hmm, Alice sounds alot like The Cars.

I bought the album and saw that Roy Thomas Baker produced, as he The Cars first four albums as well.

Keeping in mind that he produced the best of Queen's albums, my expectations were pretty high.

I loved "Clones" immediately, but I confess, it took a number of years for me to fully appreciate the album as a whole.

Now, of course, it remains in heavy rotation.

PS...Come to think about it, I quite like The Cars' music as well. these days!
