ACAS- your view now?

Post by recoop » Tue Apr 05, 2011 9:52 pm

Ok..a while has passed now..I liked ACAS on release and I still like it..( a bit too poppy in places but I thought that at outset)...so if you view this post..give your opinions..otherwise as Alice might say..you're chickens(although hopefully not ones that have been disembowelled by the first few rows of disabled fans at Toronto as Alice mught have said)
You are an individual, just like everybody else.

Nothing wrong with ACAS, got it permanently in the car and gets played regularly.
Anything I say or write is my own personal opinion, no matter who agrees or disagrees with me.

I am one of the biggest Alice Cooper fans on the planet.
But think (IMHO) that except for "Vengeance is Mine" it's the worst of all his efforts.
It was way off base for my taste. Sorry.

To be honest it's one my least listened to of all the albums... I like certain tracks but it's not my favourite of the more recent albums. Dirty Diamonds is much better in my opinion.

I like it a bit more than Dirty Diamonds and TEOAC, but that's not saying much. Belongs down in the lower third of Alice albums like everything he's done since Dragontown.

I have never listened to it all the way through - honestly!
I have skipped through it ONCE, amazed at how little it appealled to me - especially after the big build up it had. I NEVER in my wildest dreams ever thought there would be an Alice album that I could not play, it makes Constrictor seem like the From the Inside!!! Someone bought me a signed copy as well, needless to say that has NO DANGER of remaining untouched!!!!

Barely listen to it. Mostly lazy songwriting/arrangements and horrid production/mix choices. My opinion hasn`t really changed much. I have put it on in the car a few times but really only a couple of songs that stand out. Okay pop rock album, poor Alice Cooper album.
Still think some of the songs could have worked better live then on the album but of course we never got to find out.

I've liked it from day one so my opinion has not changed.

Funny how this album polarises

I feel the same now as i did the first time i heard it. Very poorly written, produced and executed. Just a very lazy album on all parts really.

'Vengeance Is Mine' is ok i suppose, nothing special. 'Wake The Dead' would have been ok if they hadn't put in that awful "run for your life" section which adds nothing to the song and just sounds like lazy lyric writing.

The rest of the album is barely listenable.

This album is a big let down for me - it had a great initial build up and Vengeance is Mine was a real cool song.

However, the rest of the album is pretty bad, especially the production.

Hardly ever listen to anything else except vengeance. Least played album after ZCS and L&W!!!

Still a disappointment after all the build up, don't play it that often.

Wow...reviews all across the board...its my 3rd favorite of Alice's behind Killer and then Raise Your Fist and Yell...still think its a wretched shame that it never got the full blown tour it deserved...would have loved to seen Catch Me If You Can and I am the Spider done live especially...

I liked it more when it was originally released. Now I can't remember exactly when was the last time I played it. I don't hate it as much as While heaven wept or Si but it has in all honesty the worst lyrics Alice Cooper has ever written. It is full of lyrical cliches, clumsy lines and to make things worse repetition. I as a talented amateur poet am not impressed with those lyrics.

Musically it is not that bad but definately quite weak for Alice. Vengeance is mine and I am the spider are great songs. Catch me if you can and The one that got away are ok. In touch with your feminine side is ok as well (Despite its awful lyrics it has a semicool riff) if I'm in the right mood. In this case it happens quite rarely. The rest of the album is either average(generic) or poor.

My opinions have been covered by other folks' comments, so I'll sum up.

-Terrible production
-Lazy, repetitive, pedestrian lyrics
-NO sonic variety
-Half-baked riffs and arrangement
-ZERO hooks

Both bonus tracks are arguably better than most of the album - A true sign of just how wrong things can go.

Ezrin (or other capable hands/ears) probably could have brought a handful of these tracks to the next level. But alas...

Not bad IMO but over produced. Dislike the influx of non band members. I think it would have been much better if it was stripped way down like TEOAC and I bet all of those songs would have come off much better if played live.
