Where's the option for "Don't have it, but really really want a copy" ?

I think Alice's commentary is very entertaining. He's funny. It does seem like it would be fun as a stoner movie. He mentioned that there's probably some hippies getting stoned somewhere and thinking that this is the greatest movie ever made.

He said Mike sang while Alice's head was in the guillotine and Alice lip synched. I wondered how Alice sang that with no microphone in sight but I can hear it now.

I had a DVD boot of the Germany release with subtitles and the sound is much better than that of course and even better than the clips that were shown on Prime Cuts. You can hear the guitar detail so much better. I can definitely hear Glen playing on B$B at the end, as all 3 guitarists take turns on the leads to finish that song.

I notice B$B is clipped, however, like it was on Prime Cuts. On Prime Cuts, I thought they clipped it for time's sake. On my German bootleg I can see the whole song, same concert. How did that happen?

The stage was never as dark as in the movie. I have color photos of the stage and it was much clearer and brighter. Like Brian Nelson said; the 16mm camera was blown up to 35 mm causing the darkness.

The unedited version of Unfinished Suite, even though dark until the end, is a great long distance view of how the stage looked.

Alice sounds like Gene Wilder in The Lady is a Tramp acting scenes.

Wish the band had some better pictures of them in the biographies. It's hard to tell what they look like.

The film skill, lighting and sound recording of the Brutal Planet DVD blows this away but that's progress. It still a blast to see this, imperfect as it is.

Alice's commentary is my favorite part right now. He has some interesting observations. It sounds like he hasn't seen it in 30 years either and it's taking him back. When all 5 of them are on the elephant, he said, "Now there's some people who would see this and wonder "Why did this band ever break up?"

Wow the 70's is like ancient history! What a trip!

Unfortunately, it hasn't come out yet here in Ottawa (at least where I checked). I asked a guy at the store about it and he didn't even know about it. Does Canada get a later release date? It was disappointing to go to few stores and come home empty handed. :( Oh well, hopefully soon!
All of the above is just my opinion.

Jay, on the main AC site it does mention both the U.S. and Canada being both released at the same time. Your store probably didn't bother ordering it. There are quite a few places hard pressed to find it in a store. Honestly just to save you time, I'd go through Amazon.com. Can be there in two days.

The AC main website is now reporting that the GTSYA DVD comes out on November 22 in Canada. So, that's probably why your local store didn't have it in yet. Try going back on November 22. (I'm in the same situation as I'm in Canada too.)

Thanks glamprincess and WYM for the info. November 22nd isn't that far away. I can't do the Amazon thing as I don't have a credit card (if I had one, I don't know if I could trust/control myself with it).

Hmm, I THOUGHT they had the same dates. I only noticed this two days ago. Sorry.

Yay. Just ordered this R1er thru amazon uk. I've been waiting for that site to list the disc as I only own a mere lowly switch/maestro debit card! I can't wait to see this...

Just my take - but the DVD would have been nothing without the comedy genius of Fred Smoot. :rotfl:

Excellent Funny running gags in the skits and awesome concert footage that captures the original band at its most deviance.

God are the skits painful!! Looks like something you see in a bad porno. The dialogue is that bad. As Alice jokes in the commentary " We'd never heard of editing ". Hard to think they unleashed it on theatres. The concert is great though and should be watched in full without the sketches. I'd have preferred just interviews with the band backstage or whatever. Interestingly, Alice says Glen was playing well when we all know he was barely plugged in.

Best Alice Cooper film commentary line ever:

Just saw it for the first time ---- ever! Watched the concert without the skits the first time. All I got to say is WOW! I understand why people were so shocked in 1973 by this group. THIS is where Punk started. The skits are ridiculous and should have been the alternative on the menu with the main concert without the skits being the primary. Having the stupid skits play on the "play video" menu choice is a mistake IMO. This sillyness will be the first thing they see instead of the pure excellent debauchery of the concert itself.

I will study this concert over the coming weeks and will report back song by song my critic. But if first impressions are any indication all I can say is I wish I were there in 1973 when it all was reaching its climax!

Urgh. Great gig, horrible filler film footage. The commentary's "the audience loves the balloons" type remarks are somewhat depressing. Makes AC sound far more like a marketing man than an actual rocker! Plus he's happy to observe the band attacking a Nixon lookalike and yet at the same time, openly supports Dubya on his current radio show. Oh how times change...

btw Shame Renfield wasn't also on this commentary.

I see no relation between Bush and Nixon other than both being republicans. I've also seen him wallow on the ground with Hillery (the socialist), Bill (cigar man), and Jimmy (no backbone) Carter. He probably just includes any president that he can get a double, or a good Halloween mask for.

That was a great way to finish off a show, it was bound to send you home with a smile on yer face.
I think that opitimises the bands humour.

Hmmm. Well don't expect to see a George W. Bush impersonator anytime soon despite the horrendously large amount of Dubya masks readily available. At least I still like AC's music...
