I'm guessing he's not well known outside the UK, but couldn't help chuckle at this comparison from The Scotsman review of the Glasgow gig:

It was good to say hello to a few of the Sickthings in Leeds before I got to chuck the balloons. Me and my wife were lucky enough to get a private meet n'greet with Alice post show and Sheryl was still changing when we were taken in. It’s a huge credit to her that she seemed completely chilled about us invading her downtime. Thank god Alice isn’t married to Mariah Carey- we reckon we’d still be waiting to see him now!
Alice was, of course, his usual charming self. I feel very lucky that he's been my musical hero for 45 years,and not Gary Glitter or some grumpy sod like Van Morrison!
