Glen Sobel Drumming on Raise the Dead Tour?

Post by unfinished sweet » Thu Sep 27, 2012 3:40 pm

Just wondering if Glen Sobel will be drumming on the Raise the Dead tour. Hope so. He's my second favorite drummer who has played with Alice. Behind Neal Smith of course.

Just wondering if he's still having neck issues.

Great. Wasn't terribly impressed with the last guy.

Alice obviously likes him or he wouldn`t have asked him back after all these years to hold the fort for Glen and save the tour. Give Jonathon the credit and respect he deserves please.

It will be nice to see Glen back and I'm glad he's fit again - must be awful to be forced to take a break from doing what you love. That said, I was really pleased to be able to see Jonathan behind the kit at Bloodstock - that show had the BEST sound I have ever heard at any of the Alice shows I've been to.

I thought Jonathan did pretty good... I can't imagine how difficult it is to learn a set on the fly mid-tour. Not to mention, they were doing half a set for Maiden most of the time and then the full set for only two or three shows spaced weeks apart.

I remember they sound checked longer than usual at one of them, Bethlehem, working extensively on the various songs he hadn't played in the shorter show. We we waited outside by the buses for a bit. He was nice enough to stop over for autographs and pics and I mentioned to him that it must be difficult to learn a set on the fly and he said something to the effect of "It's cool, it keeps it interesting." A real pro.
"Golly gee it's wrong to be so guilty..."

I'm sure it was difficult to step in when he did, and, yes, I'm very glad he did, but he isn't as good as Glen IMO, or certainly wasn't the day I saw him and I will be glad to see Glen back in October, as I think he is brilliant.

As much as I like Glen I actually thought the set with Jonathan worked better because the songs had a slower feel to them. Poison was the best Ive heard it in a long time and I think that was purely down to the fact it was played slower like the original.

I saw 9 shows with Jonathan, including his first night in Wantagh. Some nights were pretty rough, others not so much. He never seemed to gel as well as Glen though. Wantagh was definitely the worst I saw, but it was understandable too seeing as it was his first night back and Glen had still been playing the night prior in Mansfield. All that being said, huge credit to Jonathan for filling in on such short notice.
