I have no idea what the actual size of the crowd at Sturgis was. But I wondered if that figure was a typo and really 45,000 as that would seem to be a lot more reasonable.

'Sturgis' attracts more than 500,000 visitors to the locale apparently, and with a local population of 750,000 it is possible that Alice played to 450,000.
I wanna know who-the-hell counted 'em all :bam:

If that's the case, then I imagine the show was outdoors on a large field or something because I cannot see how a venue can hold 450,000 people.

If he played in 450,000 then surely I'D be hearing this from something other than a message board post a month later. 45,000 is more realistic.

Link please?

During that event maybe, but remember that can be spread out over several long days. For instance, the Indiana State Fair brought in around 800,000 (or at its peak 900,000) people per year, in a city with around a million people (Indianapolis.) Yet, the bands are probably going to play to a tiny fraction of that around 5 to 10 thousand. For this event, I think there are even multiple concerts and other events going on at the same time (roughly) during that event, which seems to very big.
and with a local population of 750,000
No where near that. Sturgis has a population of between 6500 to 7000 people.

It's usually stats compiled by event ticket sales, etc.

Hmmm... Sorry GP and WYM, guess that'll teach me to make vain attenpts at humour. I did get the figures from a link from the 'Sturgis' website and totally realize that very probably Alice didn't play in front of 450.000 people. Someone probably heard that Alice played and that 450.000 bikers turned up at Stugis biker event. Added 2+2 and got=5.

Oh right you are, ole' 'WickedYoungMan'.

Your stats are pretty much right on, this happens (numbers) pretty much at most events along this magnitude.

I think Wicked Young Man nailed it. LOL-If it was 450,000 people Alice played in front of, here's hoping everyone of them buy the new album. ;)
