Ozzy?

Post by Nev » Thu Jul 31, 2008 1:19 am

What song did Ozzy play on? Did he? I heard he did harmonica and I figured that was him on Wake the Dead.
But I just got the CD and I dont see him in the credits for any song.
Unless I overlooked... 10 times.

J. Osbourne is John Osbourne, who is Ozzy. He's got some writing credits on Wake The Dead, but no "music" mention.

But wasnt he doing something with a harmonica?
I could swear I read he was in a few write ups prior to the release.

Well....i assume that the harmonica being played in Wake the Dead is him....given previous information. I don't believe anything has been stated to the contrary.

On the inner back page of the insert it mentions Slash but there's no Ozzy mention.

Well on the song credits it doesn't give any mention of anyone playing harmonica.....so, maybe Ozzy didn't want credit for it. I mean when ever he get credit for writing song post Black Sabbath he's put as Ozzy, not John, from what I've seen.

I think you're hearing things. ;)

For what it's worth, it's on good authority that they wanted the Ozzy appearance to be on the quiet side even before the album was even out, this could be why you see no mention in the album packaging. I know nothing more than that so don't ask me why, but just throwing that in there for consideration.

My friend swears that Ozzy sings on that track. But if you listen carefully, I think that its just the backup singer singing in a very high pitch voice mixed in with Alices.

It was my understanding that Ozzy did play harmonica on this track. But not everything you read is accurate of course.

This is actually addressed here: http://www.sickthingsuk.co.uk/interview ... ly2008.php

SickthingsUK: Slash has guested with Alice before, as has Ozzy (on 'Hey Stoopid') but how did Ozzy come to be playing Harmonica on 'Wake The Dead', when Alice also plays harmonica and could have done it?

Greg Hampton: Danny and Oz originally were messing with the idea a few years ago...

SickthingsUK: What was Ozzy's input in writing 'Wake The Dead'?

Greg Hampton: The original idea that Danny and Ozzy was what we built it from... Then Alice took it and ran with it. We just had to hold on.... ALICE moves pretty quickly when he is inspired and in ''the moment'.' Bernard Fowler (Rolling Stones) is a mutual friend of Danny and mine going back many many years so he started getting involved on vocal arrangements and background vocals and really added a lot.

I don't want to sound like a prick but Ozzy may not be able to play the short lick from Wizard correctly. If Ozzy played on that track then he would have had credit.

i'm a big fan of Ozzy, but pretty useless if he is only the harmonica player in this song...

Erickana, allthough the backing vocals do sound like Ozzy, as he isn't credited we can only assume that Bernard Fowler and Greg Hampton were influenced by Ozzy's demo of the song, as I don't know why Ozzy or Alice would want to keep an appearance by John Osbourne quiet?
Lead guitar on Social Debris. Album on iTunes, Amazon & Spotify, title track featured on TV

I assumed that Ozzy did the Harmonica back when he And Saber worked on the song, and Saber kept it, but as it's so minor they simply gave him a writing credit for his input rather then anything else.

It DID also cross my mind that the harmonica bit could have been a small sample from the old Sabbath track 'The Wizard' as they sound similar, but I haven`t had time to check it out.
