Post by killer_sheep » Mon Jul 07, 2008 5:14 pm

I honestly don't know. The dialog at the end of the last track almost made Alice seem like Hannibal Lector. He knows everything that happens but he isn't the one doing it because he is locked up.

Here's my interpretation:

The prologue is a narration that takes place after Spider's Capture. It talks about how he **** up. "I Know Where You Live" tells the story of how he cases his victims. The victim in particular seems to be the one who will have great importance throughout the album.

"Vengeance Is Mine" is about Spider's past and what created his need to kill.

"Wake the Dead" is about the wide range of victims and their fates.

"Catch Me If You Can" describes the moment he captures the woman he sings about in "I Know...". He is now daring the police to catch him.

"In Touch With Your Feminine Side" is Spider talking to the female victim mentioned in the above songs. He expresses his desire to violate her.

"Wrapped in Silk" describes what Spider does to his victims and what he will do to this female victim (but obviously does not).

"Killed By Love" is a ballad in which Spider expresses his love for this female victim. He sings about how this love is not reciprocal.

"I'm Hungry" describes how his habit is beginning to spin out of control - so much to the point that he is getting sloppy.

"The One That Got Away" demonstrates his sloppy habits. He decides not to kill his female victim out of love for her.

"Salvation" is about repentance of his crimes, assuming after he's been caught.

"I Am The Spider" is his full blown, insane confession. There is an epilogue that seems to be Spider's mental state while imprisoned.

I might be off the mark a bit, but I'm pretty sure I'm close.

What is also interesting is that the album is circular. Vengeance is Mine leads us to believe that he has been imprisoned before. Perhaps the prologue refers to last time he was jailed and the epilogue refers to the next time. So the album is a never-ending circle. The album loops and suddenly, the prologue refers to the second time he was imprisoned. Then Vengeance is Mine refers to him getting out of prison again. Interesting.

Well since so many people here have admitted to hearing the whole album, I am GUILTY too...but I have the cd and album on order for opening day so of course I would never do anything to cheat Mr. Cooper...too loyal.

With that said, this is probably my 3rd all time favorite album of Alice (2nd being Killer and 1st being Raise Your Fist and Yell), ACAS is stunningly chilling...the music, the lyrics are just so cool...especially my favorite song "Catch me if you can" and the lyrics "which limb shall I choose, which limb gets sawed in half, which leg would you lose to this arachnophobic psychopath..."---LOVE IT TO DEATH

As for the ending, someone can help out what they think it means....

SPOILERS

Spider refers to being in this room for 28 years with Steven...he says he didn't do the crimes that they are piecing together...is Spider nuts...is Steven responsible or a possible copycat? Implications for a sequel?

I think Spider is Steven and is schizophrenic. It would explain why it doesn't totally make sense. Maybe it means they just found the journal, 28 years after catching Spider.

He mentions that they are just now starting to put it all together (using that tense referring to the day they found the journal), but I'm not certain if that proves the Schizophrenic theory correct or not.

an interesting interpretation thanks. the cyclical nature mentioned in the thread too. i certainly had him locked up in the pokey during ViM (and when i get out of here)

as for 28 years ? 1980 hmm

steven / schizo - i'm in two minds about that - truly

The Steven/Spider same person occured to me as well. That's what it sounded like, like Spider was talking to Steven, who was only replying in his own mind (so we don't hear him).

I've not heard the album yet but I had an inkling that the final song(s) would reveal that Spider was actually Steven, whose state of mind was deteriorating further to the extent where a new personality was born (Spider). This could allow him to escape (in a manner of speaking) from his situation, from who he was.

I'm really psyched for this album now!!!

FURTHERMORE!

We've always been led to believe that Steven has been in solitary confinement so if it's stated Spider shared a room with him, I would take that as a hint that Spider is simply another facet of Stevens personality.

That along with the diary could leave the listener asking if these events really happened or was it all in his mind?

Did he Escape or did he do this Years Ago?

You're almost left with as messed up a perception of reality as Steven!

See, THIS is the Alice I love!!

You know what's funny. Years Ago/ Steven/ The Awakening would fit right in on this album. I would put them between Killed By Love and I'm Hungry. It would add an interesting twist to the story. Spider dreams at night - the voices he hears torture him in his dreams. He wakes up and is ready for a rampage (I'm Hungry).

I'm kinda into creating my own compilations, so I would consider adding some other Alice songs that could flesh out the story even more. I got this idea from seeing what songs added into the WTMN show. He added "I'm 18" right in the middle, which is not outside the theme of Steven's nightmare.

Can anyone tell me - does Alice speak on this album? I mean like a narative of sorts like Vincent Price did on WTMN? Or even a little like he did in the middle bit of Gimme? I really hope that he does!

I don't want to spoil anything, but he delivers the epilogue. There is also dialogue in one of the songs, but that is it. It works. It isn't a monologue quite the size of Vincent Price's, but I enjoy it just the same.
