Trust me, I do. I spend between $250.00 and $300.00 a month just to get to and from work. That, my friend, is insane.Baz wrote:Shoesalesman wrote:Yeah, our gas prices are insane.SKULLBOY wrote:
Hell Shoey, I've driven that far for just one show! On a side note, what are gas prices like in Canada? I assume they're similar to here, but it varies so much across the US.

To further illustrate what Baz is saying here; I filled my car up yesterday.Baz wrote:Yes it is, but if you were over here it would cost you double that.
That was the point i was trying to make.
It`s just as well we don`t have to cover the same milage as you guys have to.
It has a 60 litre tank, and runs on diesel, which (yesterday) cost me £72.00 = $147 (Canadian)
With careful driving this might take me 500 miles!
As Baz rightly says, geographically, we don't have the mileage to cover that you have, but (unfortunately) I can still remember the not so far off days when 70 quid was a good night out, with a meal, a show, and a bag of pork scratchings in the taxi home - and STILL have change to take the monkey suit to the cleaners!!
Nowadays being taken to the cleaners is all we get!!

And another difference is that in most places in the States you must have a car, you can't use buses or trains as we do.
I live in a small city in Switzerland (about 38'000 people) I never had a car. I f I had one, with all expenses (petrol and insurance etc) it would cost me at least 500$ a month just leaving it in the garage, with petrol at (last time I looked) almost 2$ a LITER. It's simply impossible for my small income.
Not to mention I also try to preserve the environnement as much as I can.
For the concert next week I have a rented car, we have a car sharing society and you get interesting prices. I can't go by train which would be cheaper because there are no trains during the night.
Funny fact: it's the second time I get the car sharing membership ESPECIALLY to go see Alice (is that dedication or what?).

Very true. I'd LOVE to use public transportation on a regular basis...but it just doesn't exist in a form I can use regularly around here.Dragonlady wrote:And another difference is that in most places in the States you must have a car, you can't use buses or trains as we do.

You could hitchhike, Shoey. In which case the monkey suit might find you a far favorable ride than the one you'll get looking like a mermaid.Shoesalesman wrote:Although I won't be in monkey garb like Maurice, I'll be treating this road trip as gas well spent.
Or not??

I understand your point, though my monthly gas expense has pretty much doubled in the 6 years that I've been working at my job. This dips**t at work tried telling me that I should ride a bike to work every day. He just doesn't understand (seriously, he doesn't) why riding a bike over 90 miles a day and spending over 4 hours a day riding it would be a problem. He said he wished he could ride a bike 90 miles a day. I told him he could, and that nobody is stopping him.Baz wrote:Yes it is, but if you were over here it would cost you double that.

I hope that there are a couple of different songs for this tour. What I really hope is after the release of the new album, when the launch the North American tour, that we really see the ACAS set. I'll settle for the Psycho Drama again especially with some different songs. Who am I kidding, I'd settle for the same tour, but one can always hope for more, right?

Iknow I've mentioned it on another thread, but the Planet Rock contest page for the Southampton tix says:
"If you go, you can expect to hear new material from his eagerly anticipated new record, Along Came A Spider (released 28 July), as well as classic material from his three decade spanning back catalogue."
Can this rumour be confirmed or denied...? Kyler...? *looks pitiful, wanting to know*

good seats
how do you all get such good seats up front?
the last show I went to we called the morning of the tix sales (literally at 9am when they went on sale) and while we were on the floor we weren't anywhere near the front-I did get an AMEX (after the fact) because I've noticed that some venues sell tix a day earlier for card holders, but is there any other way of ensuring great seats?
So, is that why I couldn't get seats up front, because all of you sickthings were up there? Sheesh!!

Well mostly there are no seats at all at the concerts I go to. It's standing and general admission. The good side is that you have a chance of being in the front the bad side is that it's a lottery and you don't always win. It's a lot of work as I am about to find out again tomorrow. And you must be prepared to stand for several hours *pfew*
I'd better go to sleep early today it's going to be a loooong day. I get up at 7am for work and we won't be home before 2 or 3 am...
The only time I saw Alice in a seated theater (Edinburgh) was one of my most frustrating experiences. During the opening show I couldn't see a thing, all the guys in the row in front of me were so tall, and of course standing up.
In the end I gave up, ready to leave or go pout somewhere and I spotted a way to sneak up closer to the front. I was still a good way away from the stage but at least I could see what was going on...
And I could see all my fellow SickThings in the fornt too

Blimey! Good value or what!? What do you travel in? Bus, car or sheep- powered rickshaw!?hywel wrote:with my job, i travel the neath, afon and swansea valleys these are pretty big vallyes and it costs me just over £60.00 per month.Baz wrote:Yes it is, but if you were over here it would cost you double that.
